The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Sienna. While parked, the air bag warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic. The technician stated the air bag and air bag harness on the front passenger side would have to be replaced but the part was not available for repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 59,500.

Airbag lite is on. Code B0111 open side squib P/S tsc 0252-08 appies. R&R side airbag assembly as per tsb 0252-08. Rechecked system working as designed. The entire airbag system does not function when the airbag lite is on. Total airbag system failure. Repaired and working after repair.

We purchased the van used in 2009 with 12000 miles on it and made our purchase decision based on the reputation for quality and safety that Toyota had at the time. In July 2009 the SRS warning light began to illuminate. According to the dealer the air bag wiring harness and system was known to have issues. Luckily the dealer convinced Toyota usa to cover the repair. In November 2011 the light again came on and did its blinking thing. Currently we have a little over 48000 miles on the van and the dealer said that because we are past warranty that it won't be covered. A private mechanic tested the system and determined the airbags are not functioning and that Toyota has published a bulletin acknowledging the issue but refuses to repair this safety concern. When the light is blinking or on, the airbags will not deploy, putting everyone inside at risk. A van with 48000 miles should not have to have the airbags replaced twice. Looking at online forums there seems to be hundreds if not thousands of other Sienna owners experiencing the same problems and yet Toyota still refuses to recall the product or offer a reasonable repair. I am afraid that it will take a traffic collision resulting in a death or multiple deaths to push Toyota to fix this systemic problem. A second concern which seems to be problematic with our van as well as others is the welds within the driver door breaking. The vehicle has not been in an accident nor any other major incident to cause them to break. According to the private mechanic, it is a manufacturing issue and that the weld should be one of the strongest parts of the vehicle and shouldn't break.

I own a 2006 Toyota Sienna which started displaying an airbag warning light at about 90,000 miles. I had an independent airbag technician run diagnostics. He found a history of increased resistance in the connector under the drivers seat. He stated that he had seen this in the driver and front passenger connections of many 2006 Siennas. I found online that this is a widespread problem of a critical safety system for which Toyota is not taking responsibility. Owners are paying thousands of dollars for repairs only to have it fail again which suggests that Toyota has no idea as to the root of the problem. Hopefully, I have solved my problem by applying penetrox (an anti corrosive zinc paste for electrical connections) to the connectors under both front seats and connecting and disconnecting each about 25 times to clean the contacts. The fix has lasted 2 months so far.

The failure and current mileages were 44,000. The VIN was unknown.

Purchased vehicle used in August 2011 with approximately 52,000 miles. Upon starting vehicle in late December 2011 (approximately 56,000), air bag warning light began to blink. The next day, the light did not blink and appeared unlit (normal). The third day, the light began to blink again and has not stopped. There was no unusual bumping or impact that could have caused the light to illuminate. I took the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis. Dealer told me that the airbag wires had been "tampered with" - apparently by the previous owner (vehicle has prior salvage title, but has been repaired, inspected, and approved for service again). The deal quoted $2,500 - $3,000 to replace faulty wiring harness. I declined the service in the immediate, to consider the safety and cost repercussions. Although I declined service, the air bag light ceased blinking - even though the vehicle was not repaired. Additional research has revealed hundreds, if not thousands of 2006 Toyota Sienna owners who have had a nearly identical experience. There are tsbs related to this issue. A recall seems necessary for this important safety issue related to an apparent faulty air bag wiring system.

The airbag warning light on my Toyota Sienna illuminated when the car had about 60,000 miles on it, well before the expiration of Toyota's extended warranty. Two local dealerships told me that it was a wiring harness problem and would cost somewhere between $2000 and $3000 to fix, as it was not covered by the warranty. Fortunately, the light went off after a short time. Now with about 90,000 miles on the car, it has come back on. A quick internet search has revealed literally hundreds of complaints of this same failure, many of which are occurring with very few miles on the car. I cannot imagine why Toyota has not issued a safety recall. Beyond that, I cannot fathom why NHTSA hasn't yet demanded one. This is clearly a defective design and Toyota is not being held accountable for it. Please do something about this. Just do an internet search for 2006 Sienna airbag complaint. You will be shocked at the number and consistency of complaints about this problem.

Sienna 200-2006 has three major problems: 1) the door check mount cracks (so as for the welded parts inside the door to crack from each other by itself). 2) from time to time the airbag light keep blinking, and upon investigation, there is a problem with the airbag socket that can disconnect anytime upon changing the position of the driver seat. 3) the paint of the body fades fast (as for a 6 years old garage kept car the paint to fade, is something unique).

I recently had my airbag light flashing on my dash and the dealership said both rh and LH air bag wiring harnesses with sensors will need to be replaced. The cost to fix $5335. I recently had my power sliding door go out. The door opened but would not close. The cost to fix $1800.

Air bag indicator light came on indicating a failure in the driver's side air bag. The air bags will not deploy in the event of a crash due to a faulty wire harness as explained the Toyota dealer service department. This is a known problem with Sienna minivans, for which a Toyota service bulletin has been issued, but there has not been a model recall.

Had the air bag light go on and off for a while, and was told that when air bag light is on, the passanger airbags does not work. When the light went on and stayed on, I took it to the dealership. They said that it has faulty wiring and it will cause all airbags not to work, and the wiring would need to be replaced for $3000. After seeing all the complaints online with the 2006 Sienna with the same issue, it is obvious this is a quality and safety issue that should be addressed. I am just thankful we did not get in a accident, and hope toyato or the government steps in before something like that will happen thinking that it is just the passanger side airbag.

Our Toyota Sienna 2006 airbag light had been going on and off on the instrument panel. Took it to the Toyota dealership, they insist they have never heard of this problem. There are multiple complaints on the internet for this model and year. Not to mention other models being recalled for the same problem.. they are not diagnosing the cause but trying to replace the entire system.(wiring harness, sensors and airbags) I believe an investigation as to the faulty component or components are in order. Are the replacement parts they are wanting to use the same as they faulty ones. Are any of they airbag components in the Sienna the same as the Toyota highlander. (sensors chips, wiring harness). The dealership says they are using the same components that were originally were installed. Have read multiple forum complaints of people on there second or third total replacement of the entire airbag system. The dealership said it could take one to two months to get the parts because of national shortage. Again a shortage, are too many Siennas have the same problem, or are the components that are faulty similar to the highlander and are being used in that recall.

I had no idea so many other 2006 Sienna owners have air bag problems like I do. The first replacement was after only 8 months of ownership. The dealer replaced the entire front passenger seat assembly. Since then the air bag light went off and on with no pattern to its frequency and has been on continually for at least 6 months despite removing the drawer and inspecting/disconnecting/reconnecting the connectors. Right now a piece of black electrical tape covers the light on the dashboard since the dealer will charge $3000 to replace what has already been replaced and did not fix the problem. Air bags are not covered under the extended warranty. I feel like I have to tell my front seat passengers that they may not have an air bag protecting them and may feel safer in the rear seats. Toyota has a reputation for safety and I am surprised that the company has not done more to fix the air bag problems on 2006 Siennas. We bought our Sienna knowing we would soon have 3 teen/young adult drivers in the family and we wanted a vehicle that would protect all of us, no matter who is driving or sitting in the passenger seat.

The air bag warning light came on. I took the vehicle into the dealership to have it looked at. The result was that the wiring harness for the seat sensor on the passenger side has corroded creating an open circuit. They gave me an estimate to replace the wiring harness and air bag (which has been apparently damaged due to the corroded harness) to a total of $3,000. Wiring harnesses do not corrode in 5 years unless the part was defective at installation. Since the SRS system is a major part of the vehicle's safety systems and the system was designed to operate as a whole, repair is mandatory in order to insure occupant safety. Searching the internet there are literally 100S of instances of the exact same issue with the 2006 and 2007 model years. The fact that this issue is a fault in the vehicles safety system and the high incident of this failure occurring I believe justifies a recall for repair of the system by the manufacturer.
