Tundra

  • 62,000 miles
2000 Toyota Tundra 62,000 miles. Locally driven. Frame, cab and bed are severely rusted. The bed is covered with a tonneau cover and is rusting from the weld joints out. The " C" channel frame is perforated below the bed. Toyota states that it does not know of a problem with the Tundra, they just did a buyback program with the 1995-2000 Tacoma for the same reason. Frames for both trucks are made in the states, does anyone see a connection" poor metal or prep"

Tundra

  • 154,000 miles
2000 Toyota Tundra with rust holes through frame over and beside rear shock brackets and spring brackets. I am at my wits end with Toyota and have tried to resolve this obvious defect at every level. This has become a safety issue for my self and other drivers, it is just a matter of time before the frame will snap in half. This truck is only 8 years old and the problem is getting worse by the day, I reported this with Toyota almost two years ago and they said they would put it in the system? now March of 2009 Toyota has inspected the truck and admits there is a problem but does not want to resolve it. I can go on line and find alot of complaints about this same problem with Toyota dodging the issue. I was wondering if this would be something that should be looked into since they have already had this problem with some of the other trucks they manufacture. I plan to also notify my insurance company that they possibly could be insuring a potential disaster. Your help and input would be greatly appreciated.

The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. The vehicle was taken in for repairs and the technician observed that the rear subframe bracket was damaged, which could result in the vehicle turning over. The technician recommended that the vehicle be inspected at an authorized dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the subframe bracket was severely cracked. The warranty was expired and the dealer refused to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the failure was repaired. The contact has notified the manufacturer due to the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was 181,231 and current mileage was 182,000. Updated 11/24/08 spare tire carrier was severly rusted. Tundra 4WD

We bought a 2000 Toyota Tundra, 4X4, extra cab. At 800 klms we noticed there was no paint left on the front bottom corners of the box. At 5800 klms there is no paint left on the whole undercarage of the truck, large chunks of metal gone from the rockerpanels, rock chips all over the vehicle including the roof. This truck has factory tires, mudflaps, and fender flares and still throws rocks so extensively to the rear, centre and front of the vehicle you actually drive right into them therefore damageing the windshield as well. It is dangerous for any mortorist behind it. We are currently heading into a dispute with Toyota Canada via canvap as Toyota Canada's position on this matter is that nothing is covered under warrenty as it is "owner abuse" due to driving on abnormal road conditions!! we drive 2 klms a day on a government maintained gravel road, and 60 klms a day on a major highway. We have seen two other Tundra's with the same problem so far and are looking for any other Tundra owners who have this problem. Our truck looks like it has been sandblasted. We have reports from independent body specialist who can't believe what this truck is doing.
