The T bracket that holds spare tire up under bed of truck broke due to excessive rust dropping spare tire out on road at 30 mph...very unsafe to say the least. Also, front torsion bar frame mount passenger side has broken off frame due to excessive rust. 2 inch by 5 inch hole in the frame bottom at this location.

Took my truck in for an oil change at the local Toyota dealer. After the routine inspection they told me the truck was unsafe to drive due to holes greater than 10mm found in the frame caused by severe rust. Toyota has said the 04 model is not part of the recall, and I appear to be in limbo. This issue is still unresolved.the truck will need new frame and components for it to be road worthy again.

I recently noticed a leak under the rear of the vehicle. Upon inspection, the differential was found to be rusted right through and leaking. I examined the frame as well and noticed severe rusting in various places on the frame. I never received a notice of recall on the frame. Apparently there is not only frame damage to many Tundra, but also to necessary working parts. I have never had an axle rot out on any of my cars and because of the inability to simply repair a seal, the entire axle will need replacing? seems a bit extreme. I like the Tundra and will base my decision to remain a customer on how I'm treated in the recall appointment.

Frame is badly rusted in many areas including where suspension and brake components mount. I am concerned a major failure could lead to injury to myself or a member of my family. I understand there was a recall for 2000-2003 Tundra for the same issue but my 2004 was not included in the recall.

Noticed small oil spot in driveway. The differential was leaking. I took it to colonial Toyota in smithfield, ri and they checked it for a recall and told me there was none. They did note the axle was not in good shape and should probably be replaced as the differential is part of the housing. Not ready to drop 3K for a poorly made product. Research and other recalls tell me that the metal used was of an inferior quality and will not hold up in the northeast. Toyota of course, wants no part of this and will not take responsibility for anything. Also had spare tire fall off on highway due to severe corrosion. I cannot understand how this vehicle is not on any recall list, I guess no one has been killed yet. Leak progressively getting worse.

My 2004 Toyota Tundra limited, purchased in 2004 directly from Toyota dealership for 39000 dollars has an extremely rusty frame. The steel peels away in layers at the welds. The proliferation can be described as "layers of a biscuit flaking a part." The dealership pounded on the frame with a tool and said that it did not fail the "Toyota frame tool" test and since the vehicle is a 2004 they would not do anything about it until it fails or becomes part of a recall. I haul a travel trailer with my family and I feel that it is extremely unsafe. How can a 7.8 year old truck rot out this quickly? there has a to be an issue here that Toyota is not willing to acknowledge. Please advise.

My 2004 Toyota Tundra double cab has an excessive amount of rust on the undercarriage. Because of this rust, the camber bolts cannot be removed to properly align the vehicle. I have been told that they will have to use heat to remove them, along with a lot of force, and in turn may do frame damage in the process. I have been quoted by my dealer $5,200 to fix the problem which initially started with a small shimmy in the steering wheel which grew into a big shimmy especially while towing. That quote does not include any possible charged from the body shop if damage to the frame should occur. I do not have $5,200 so I ended up with a new set of tires and half of an alignment because the camber bolts were not able to be removed. Here I am months later and my new tires are so bald on the front that I am actually seeing the tread showing through. I have always loved my Tundra, but all of this rust on the frame and undercarriage is very concerning regarding the longevity of my vehicle. I was told that Toyota last forever. At this point I feel that my truck is dangerous to even drive but it is my only vehicle. I have owned and maintained many vehicles and never had rust issues like this, nor have I ever been faced with such a costly repair on a not so old vehicle. I am stuck in a bad place and just don't know where to go or what to do. I desperately need my truck. Without it I lose my source of transportation as well as my ability to earn a living. I just simply cannot afford... meaning I just do not have this kind of money to bring my truck back to health. All of this stress and frustration is a result of this excessive rust. Included in the estimate is remove and replace camber bolts $1,957 --- steering rack boots $400 alignment 90.00---- driveshaft assembly $2,003---- rear U-joint $433---- differential fluid $330 it does not include any possible damage to the frame/body in their attempt to remove the camber bolts or another brand new set of tires.

Vehicle frame and undercarriage seems to have an excessive amount of rust and deterioration. As I perform maintenance on the vehicle, I am replacing rusted parts including bolts, drain plugs as well as spraying the undercarriage with wd-40, 3M undercoating spray and corrosion stop. This issue is an on-going fight to keep the rust at bay.
