I notified Toyota motor manufacturing of Alabama quality control in late 2007 and again in early 2008 of both of my Tundra speeding up on their own. I actually work at the Toyota plant and was told to not breath a word of this to anyone that it had to do with my job. I have a lot more information on this and Toyota has had me go to depositions over this but have tried to get me to believe their was nothing wrong with the vehicles. I am now coming forward.

Issues with Toyota's secondary air intake pump seems to be a major issue. Since 2007, now Toyota has control over the necessary parts and will release as they seem fit. I have waited over two weeks to get these parts and installed. And the dealership says they have no idea how long it will be could be weeks. They know that the pump has issues and will not fix the problem till it goes bad. And if your driving down the interstate and you lose power that could be a safety issue. My truck broke down in my driveway as I was pulling out to go on a 3000 plus mile road trip. Wish a recall can be ordered to fix the issue before hand.

This is a recurring problem. Initially, my truck was taken to a Toyota dealer service center on 3/15/2012 to an issue with my check engine light, slip indicator light, 4-wheel drive (4lo), vsc off all came on, sluggish acceleration/loss of acceleration occurred when driven & my gas mileage/fuel efficiency decreased (my truck appeared to 'run rich'). initially the warning/indicator lights would occasionally stay on when the truck was started, other times they would not. Eventually, they just stayed on whenever the truck was started. When serviced, I was told that the issue was covered by my warranty & the secondary air switching valve was replaced which should have fixed the issue. Just over a year later, 3/19/2013, the same issue has occurred after being told the problem was fixed! the mileage that this occurred at was around 44,000. The problem was presenting in the same way - loss of acceleration/sluggish acceleration (extremely dangerous not to have acceleration while traveling on a highway/interstate), the same warning/indicator lights came on & the gas mileage/fuel efficiency decreased because the truck is 'running rich' again. Took it to a Honda dealership service center to make sure I would be able to drive home. The service technician gave the error code of P2440 which is an error code for the air intake pump. Honda dealership was unable to fix the problem because of the make of truck. Took the vehicle to the same dealership where this problem was initially diagnosed & 'fixed' the first time. Have been told by the service technician that the issue is the same problem as last time. However, this technician has informed me that the reason this problem has occurred yet again, is because there is a passenger side & a driver side part. The one replaced last year was the passenger side. This time, it's the drivers side that needs to be replaced.

2007 Toyota Tundra. Consumer writes in regards to air injection system pump malfunction. The consumer stated while driving, the check engine light illuminated. Almost immediately, there was a sudden loss of power, which almost caused him to come to a complete stop. The consumer took the vehicle to his local mechanic, who informed him of what the failure was. When the mechanic called Toyota about the parts, the mechanic was informed about an extended warranty from three years/36,000 to five years/ 70,000. The mechanic was also informed about a defect with the system, which caused water infiltration, which could compromise the system. The mechanic advised the consumer to visit the dealer. The dealer did confirm the diagnosis was correct. However, the consumer was informed the warranty only applied to a few states and the consumers stated was not included. The consumer paid $2300 for the repair.

I started my truck up yesterday just randomly to go to the store. As soon as I started it a bunch of warning lights went off. The check engine light was on, the 4WD lo light was blinking, the vsc off light was blinking, and the traction control light was on. I then turned the vehicle off and let it sit for a few minutes. I turned the truck back on and the same warning lights were still on. I then pulled out of my driveway to go to a friends house who has a little computer that tells you what errors are going off when your check engine light is on like an autobody. As I pulled onto the main road and pressed on the accelerator the truck would barely go. The engine sounded like it usually does but the truck would hardly accelerate. When I finally got to my friends house he plugged the computer in and it gave me an error code of P2440. Once I looked more into it I found that it was the air induction pump that was malfunctioning. Further research online I found thousands of people have had the same problem with Tundra's with mileage between 40K and 60K. My biggest concern is why the vehicle is not accelerating like it supposed to. Many other people have the same concern. That is a huge safety hazard to me. What would happen if that would just all of a sudden shut my engine down to the slow crawl that it is doing if I am on a turnpike in heavy traffic. I would believe that there would definitely be an accident which I am sure it has happened before. I am just wondering if there is anything that can be done or maybe something that has already been done. Like a recall that I am not aware of.
