I was having issues with my vehicle shutting off while in drive mode. My vehicle shut off when entering a busy highway. I tried to restart with no luck. I then had to call highway patrol to help me move my vehicle to a safe place. Once in a safe place off the busy highway I called a tow truck who towed my vehicle to a Volkswagen dealer. The dealer repair service scanned the system and found the fuel pump control module burned up from the fuel pump drawing too many amps. The fuel pump and fuel pump control module had to be replaced. The service repair told me I had to spend out of pocket to replace because the recall repair for the fuel pump control module was not yet available. I was told to call the customer care number on the recall notice to find out about receiving a refund on the repair since it was due to the recall. I called and was told there was not yet a repair available and I would have to wait. I have already spent out of pocket for this recall repair and would like to receive my money back. I received the recall notice Oct. 2017; my car shut off on the ramp while entering the highway Oct. 21, 2017. It is now the end of Feb. 2018 with no resolution to the recall issue.

While on 4 lane road at 50 mph the car just stopped running. Battery light came on and no power to steering or braking. I was able to pull over without to much incidence. VW sent notice in October regarding recall and now say "pending" recall since they don't have a determined fix just yet. 3 months and still no idea how to fix"?? I paid my local shop $975 as they knew how to fix right away. Simply replace the fuel pump. And now I simply wish to be reimbursed so I can spend that on other needed repairs. VW founded in 1937, made cars for 80 years now, and they can't figure out how to repair a fuel pump in 3 months??" that removes any confidence anyone should have in owning a VW of any model.

On 1 September 2017, I parked my VW in my garage. There were no engine lights on or anything, but the car had been making a loud fan like noise after I removed the key fob from the ignition. Its been doing that since I bought it. I didn't start the car back up until 5 September 2017 after returning from a weekend with family. When I started my VW up I noticed that the engine light was now illuminated. I waited about a week before I took any action hoping that the light would just go away on its own, but it didn't. on 12 September I took the car to the nearest autozone and took advantage of their free engine light diagnostic check. The error codes read "P0171 system too lean (bank 1)" and "P12A2 fuel rail pressure sensor inappropriately high." At the top of the paper it stated that the most likely solution for these error codes was to replace the fuel pump. Once I returned home I called the local Volkswagen dealership and told them what the problem was, they told me that there was a recall out for my model vehicle, but there is no fix at the moment. I then went online to see for myself, the manufacturer recall number is: 20ae and the NHTSA manufacturer number is: 17V509. I am not sure what caused the vehicle to randomly start having these issues. I do not feel safe driving the car out of town anymore, I only drive it to and from work.

Sudden fuel system failure caused engine to quit multiple times while driving in traffic. After a few minutes sitting dead in traffic, the engine would restart and the car would operate a few minutes until the engine shut-off again. There was no warning that the engine was going to quit. The car had plenty of fuel. The following trouble codes were present when the car was taken to a mechanic: P3043- fuel pump mechanical malfunction P0087- fuel rail system pressure too low ultimately, the low pressure fuel pump, the high pressure fuel pump and the fuel control module were replaced. Even though the car had only 32,000 miles, VW declined taking any responsibility for the failure.

2009 VW Passat 2.0T. Oil leaking from rear main seal. Rear main seal failed at about 75,000 miles, not covered under warranty. First indication was oil spot on driveway and then check engine light came on. Inspected bottom of engine and it was coated with oil. The PCV valve failed and caused rear main seal to rupture and shoot oil (and possibly gas vapors) all over bottom of hot engine. Although nothing ignited in this case, began to question if some of the other fire incidents listed on NHTSA site were possibly caused by similar condition. Failure of approx. $40 part caused approx. $1700 in damage- all out of warranty. Warranty is for 5 years/60,000 miles. No maintenance data available to owner indicated that PCV valve should be checked as part of scheduled maintenance. VW leadership declined to accept any responibility for situation.

Initial failure occurred while accelerating onto main thoroughfare. Vehicle lost all engine power and stalled out. Vehicle was send to VW dealer for repair where some warranty repairs were made as well as preventative maintenance that was advised. The car was returned as "repaired" and after driving home experienced the exact same failure while the car was idling in the driveway. Car was returned again and experienced the same failure a second time while I was traveling on I275 in detroit. The car stalled out and I again lost all power. I was forced to the side of the road where the car then failed to start. I was forced to sit for three hours in 20 degree weather with a twice in 2 weeks repaired issue as my car was buried in snow on the interstate. This is a major safety hazard!

The car suddenly has 50% or less power and begins stumbling very badly. Acceleration is so poor that it's quite dangerous in heavy traffic and the ability to pull off the road is severely hampered. The only way I'm able to keep the car moving and running is to use the manual feature of the automatic transmission and keep the RPM's very high. The four coil packs in the car were replaced this spring. Suddenly, the same exact problem is back again 4 months later. Codes were random misifre and multiple misfires at various cylinders. Strange that all four packs go out at the same time...." that's not logical unless is something other than normal wear causing the issue. This problem has occurred twice and both time it begins in the middle of heavy traffic where the situation is very dangerous as the power loss is nearly complete. Both times were under acceleration when the heavy stumbling occurred. I turned the car off and disconnected the battery for 5 min. To hopefully reset the cars epc as the problem is so sudden it almost certainly is electrical. There is no logical explanation for four coil packs all needing to be replaced at the same time and 4 months after the last replacement..." undoubtedly a consistently dangerous situation.
