Recently noticed car was difficult to start and car smells like gas. These events seemed to have started at approximately the same time and there has been no physical event (crash, impact) that initiated the complaint. It appears to have started in mid summer where it is operated in South Florida, and I get in the car at 4pm to 107 degrees on the temp reading. I have done nothing, but have concern about safety issues and possible fire hazard.

Incredibly strong gas smell after 4 consecutive weeks of temps over 100 degrees. Slight gas leakage at fuel pump. I have 2 small children transported in this car everyday and Volvo will not extend the recall to any other states.

I needed to replace a fuel pump on my Volvo S60 after just five years. I smelled gas and it concerned me. When I took it in, they wanted me to replace the fuel pump. I felt it should be covered under warranty and was upset about it. When I did some research I found that Volvo has had a problem with their fuel pumps. I wrote a formal letter complaining to Volvo which they did nothing about. I noticed that there was a recall in Nevada and Arizona. Why not California?

I recently noticed a gas odor in my garage coming out from the bottom of my Volvo. It appears to be the fuel pump. After a brief research it appears if you live in Nevada or Arizona your fuel pump can be change free of charge. But not in California where my Volvo uses the same fuel pump. Help!

The contact owns a 2001 Volvo S60 T5. The contact smelled gas fumes inside the vehicle. The mechanic stated that there was a crack in the fuel system. The manufacturer stated that his VIN was not included in NHTSA recall # 9515498898. The powertrain information was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 110,000.

No accident.--electronic throttle modulator cleaned --{given option of cleaning $220 (with no guarantee) or replacing for $970 (still with no guarantee)}

I owned a 1991 Volvo S60 sedan and I understand you are investigating this car. From time to time as I drove it, it would unexpectedly loose speed and power for a few seconds and then resume. It never fully stalled out. I had mentioned this at a service time for the car but nothing wrong was uncovered. Recently my daughter was driving the car on interstate 5 South of la when the car engine ceased functioning while she was driving in the hov lane. Fortunately the driver was able to coast to the shoulder through traffic without getting hit. The easily could have been hit and she could have died and we never would have known it was a vehicle failure. The car was towed to a dealership where I was told they eventually diagnosed a "failed fuel pump". I have no validation of this. I did not want to drive this car again and it was lease-end so I traded the car in that very day for a new car.
