— A Subaru ignition switch recall has been ordered by the automaker if the vehicles are equipped with replacement switches.

The recall includes more than 500 of these vehicles in the U.S.

  • 2009-2013 Subaru Forester
  • 2008-2011 Subaru Impreza
  • 2008-2014 Subaru WRX
  • 2005-2014 Subaru Legacy
  • 2005-2014 Subaru Outback
  • 2006-2008 Subaru Tribeca

The ignition switch recall is needed because the ball springs may break inside the switches and affect the strength of the switches.

Subaru says a heavy key ring or traveling on a bumpy road can force the ignition switch out of the "Run" position. This will immediately kill the engine while driving and possibly cause the airbags to deactivate.

The Subaru ignition switch recall is expected to begin May 10, 2019. Dealerships will inspect the ignition switches and replace them if necessary.

Affected owners with questions should call the automaker at 844-373-6614 and refer to recall number WUF-91.
