Toyota Recalls Highlanders To Prevent Stalled Engines

Posted in Recalls

— Nearly 43,000 Toyota Highlanders are recalled in the U.S. and Canada to prevent them from stalling while driving.

The 2020 Toyota Highlanders are equipped with features that stop and restart the engines, but problems with the features can cause the engines to stall.

The 2020 Highlanders have 3.5-liter V6 (2GR-FKS) gasoline engines, but due to programming errors in the engine control units, fuel may not be correctly supplied to the engines while using the stop and restart features.

A driver will hear a chime and see multiple warning indicators if the Highlander stalls, a problem dealers can allegedly repair by reflashing the engine control units.

About 39,000 Highlanders are recalled in the U.S. and about 4,000 are recalled in Canada.

Toyota dealers will reprogram the engine control units when the Highlander recall begins April 24, 2020.

Owners may contact Toyota at 888-270-9371 and refer to recall number 20TA06.
