Toyota Recalls Tundras With Axle Problems

Posted in Recalls

— A 2022 Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid recall involves about 51,000 trucks because of axle problems.

The Tundra trucks have rear axle nuts that can loosen and fall off, causing the axle shaft sub-assembly to detach from the axle.

The Toyota Tundra is equipped with an axle housing, axle shaft sub-assemblies and a differential carrier assembly. Each axle shaft sub-assembly is secured to the axle housing using studs and flange nuts.

But the flange nuts can loosen over time and fall off, causing one or both axle shaft sub-assemblies to begin to separate from the axle housing.

Tundra truck drivers should be aware of leaking differential oil, vibrations while driving or strange noise if the flange nuts loosen. And a truck will experience stability and braking problems if an axle shaft sub-assembly completely separates.

A Tundra driver will have stability and braking problems if separation occurs.

The 2022 Tundras need their axle flange nuts tightened and it's possible other components will be replaced.

Toyota Tundra recall letters are expected to be mailed July 15, 2022.

Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid owners may call 800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 22TA05.
