F-150 4WD 6-cyl

  • 21,110 miles
My vehicle is equipped with the 3.5 liter ecoboost 6 cylinder engine. Upon attempting to pass a vehicle while traveling at freeway speeds, the vehicle began to hesitate and the engine felt rough. The vehicle refused to accelerate, causing me to swerve back into the right lane to avoid being rear-ended by a vehicle traveling in the left lane. After approximately 30 - 60 seconds, the vehicle would accept throttle and resume normal operation. This problem has repeated itself on multiple occasions and my vehicle is currently at the dealership for the 7th time to remedy this problem. In only one instance of the many that I've had, I did get a check engine light on. Fortunately, this was documented by the Ford dealership as one entire bank of cylinders misfiring. Additionally, I have been complaining of transmission shift issues, where at slow (less than 10 mph) speeds, the transmission often 'hunts' between two gears and once selected, a loud noise emanates from under the vehicle and causes the vehicle to noticeably jerk I only learned of NHTSA PE13018 on 1/28/15. The first incident yielded installation of the deflector in the vicinity of the charge air cooler. Another incident yielded a tsb to remove the deflector, and most recently another tsb to re-install said air deflector. In every instance of this problem, I've had to execute emergency maneuvers to avoid traffic accidents. The service manager at my local Ford dealership has commented that Ford engineering has no clue how to remedy this issue. My vehicle currently has approximately 75,000 miles on it and is covered under Ford's extended warranty.

The dealer stated that the air deflector plate failed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failures recurred. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 40,000.

F-150 6-cyl

  • 39,000 miles
We were driving in normal conditions, going about 40 mph, all of a sudden we lost power/acceleration and truck jerked, and brakes seemed to applied by their selves very hard. This seemed to happen sporadically until about a week ago. Its happening now at least 3 times a week. The truck is driven everyday on the interstate and my husband is very concerned that he is going to cause an accident. It happened yesterday and he said it was so bad, when the loss of power happened, the brakes locked so bad the tires just screeched. He took truck to the dealership on 3/4/14 and they could not find anything wrong with the truck. On the way home from the dealership (same day) it happened again. After the dealership told him that, I began searching on the internet and found the loss of power/brake problem. (moisture in cooler causing loss of power problem in F-150 echboost engines) he called the dealership back and he told them about the info on the internet that we had found, and that if had happened again that same day, they told him they were aware of the echboost problem, but can't do anything about it until a recall happens, so they did nothing to the truck.this is definitely a problem and it is going to cause a collision and possible death or injury when this happens. There definitely needs to be a recall on the F-150 ecoboost trucks. Please help everyone that owns this vehicle and issue a recall.

Driving at highway speed (apx. 70 mph) attempt to pass a slower vehicle, and upon acceleration, the truck lost all power, and would not speed up. The check engine light came on, and stayed on until the truck had been turned off and restarted. I have experienced this problem on numerous occasions, and it always seems to occur in the rain, or high humidity days. I have narrowly avoided an accident on 3 occasion. The dealership where I purchased the vehicle has told me to use "fuel additive" every time I complain, stating the problem is water in the ethanol that is blended with gasoline in Texas. I recently learned about this problem having a fix, through the web, and I am now told "there is a fix, but it not a warratny situation"

Upon trying to pass a truck, when I stepped on the gas for added power, the engine convulsed and shook the entire truck, lost power, engine light flickered... I pulled over immediately, called the Ford dealership, they did a check through on star (type system). Said they saw nothing?! started back up, seemed to be fine once again. This has happened now multiple times. Always when stepping on the gas for added power, same scenario. This is the eco boost engine. While I love the power, it has failed me 5 times to date. Same problem as the PE 13-018 report.

F-150 4WD 6-cyl

  • 92,500 miles
While accelerating from the ez-pass lane at a NJ toll plaza, with no warning, the truck experienced a violent shudder and complete stall (engine power loss). Although the power did come back up within 3 seconds, it was very frightening and I felt my family was in danger with vehicles coming up behind us quickly. Luckily, we were able to get off the highway.

Loss of power during acceleration with ecoboost engine. I have been complaining to the Ford dealerships about this since right after I bought the truck. Thank you for putting this problem in the media as I am now hopeful for a resolution. I called the Ford dealership this morning and they said they knew nothing about it and to contact Ford. Here we go again with no one in Ford service departments wanting to acknowledge and resolve the problem.......

  • 3,500 miles
While driving at a constant speed you could not increase in speed. The engine would only shutter until I stopped and restarted the engine. This happened a number of times, at three different time it put me in danger while in heavy traffic. It would not allow me to increase speed to get out of danger only come to a complete stop at the side off a busy interstate. I found a service bulletin from Ford and they installed the new vain in the turbo. This helped the problem but it really hurt the fuel mileage after that.

  • 63,000 miles
Accelerating onto freeway vehicle miss fired and started to sputter and shake uncontrollably engine light started flashing, pulled vehicle over turned it off and waited 5 minutes to check manual. Restarted and no problems. Few days later started to pass a vehicle on incline and the vehicle did the exact same thing again. Repeated turn off and rest continued drive no problems. This is a safety issue while driving due to the massive shaking and lack of vehicle power to move with traffic. Took to dealer and they could replicate incident, however can't seem to diagnose problem. This should be brought to the attention of Ford Motor Co. Before someone gets killed in traffic accident due to loss of vehicle power.3.5L ecoboost FX4 F150 crewcab.

  • 7,510 miles
While traveling at 40 mph, I accelerated to enter a highway, the engine accelerated and then bogged going into what is called "limp mode". the engine began to shake and misfire causing my vehicle to decelerate rapidly. This action nearly caused a rear end collision with oncoming traffic. On March 26, 2012 I was traveling at 65 mph on interstate 95 when I attempted to accelerate to pass another vehicle. The engine immediately began bog and misfire causing the vehicle to decelerate rapidly. Again, nearly causing a rear end collision. The vehicle has been taken back to Ford for a diagnosis, Ford engineers are apparently aware of this problem.

Vehicle bogs while moderately accelerating onto the interstate while pulling a trailer with a load under 3,000 pounds. It seems as if the engine is stuck on the rev limiter. There is minimal power available and it is very dangerous. I did not buy a powerful truck in order to experience this.

I have a 2011 F150 with the 3.5 ecoboost. I have had numerous rough 3-4 upshifts since the truck was new. Brought the truck to dealer twice and was told they could not duplicate the rough shift. I have also had the engine stumble on me twice will trying to pass. I have read others are having similar problems and am hoping Ford will have a fix before someone gets killed in a wreck.

  • 1,953 miles
Driving on the interstate at 75 mph. I attempted to pass a car by giving the truck wide open throttle. The truck responded by down shifting several gears, and the RPM's increase to around 4000. Once this happens, the engine starts to bog down/misfire and the truck will not accelerate. The check engine light starts to flash. I let off the gas and the truck continues to misfire for several more minutes before clearing up on its own. This has happened on 4 or 5 different occasions.
