This is my second Acura, and my 5th Honda. (2000 Civic SI, 2000 Prelude *auto had transmission replaced, 2005 S2000, 2009 Acura TSX, 2014 Acura MDX) and definitely my last Honda that I am eager to get rid of.

Transmission problem already at 56k miles. I can't wait till 100k that will probably needing my transmission replaced

This is from my forum posting:

March 25th 2015: So our 2014 has about 56k miles. My father likes to put lots and lots of miles on his cars and this is no exception. So typically we take the problem head on while other wait for their problems to rise.

We had few other things change under warranty and this might be the biggest issue we are encountering.

So just about an hour ago my father called me and said some lights are showing up in his car. So he said something about transmission light. Anyway car was drive-able and doesn't seems like it has any problem with shifting. However "D" light was blinking and LDW FCW and finally Transmission: P177A code lights up.

I am glad the dealer was so close to our store and they were open so late. I was able to drop off the car and now waiting game will happen. I have looked everywhere for the code or if anyone had similar problems but I did not find any. I will let you folks updated how this will be taken care of.

March 28th 2015 okay took it to the dealership. They said my tranny fluid was low so they refilled it. And they updated software. but after driving around 50 miles the light came back again. I will call dealer again and take it back to let them diagnosis it again.

March 31st 2015:

It seems like our car is having same problem. Dealership will replace the switch and charge me. I called Acura customer relations and let them explain why it wasn't covered under warranty. Since it's an "external" part of transmission it is my responsibility.

We will see if it actually fixes after this one. Probably spending around 500 to 700 just to get this switch fixed

I still can't believe this part is culprit of every generation of MDX.... so which means that our transmission might fail at around 100k like usual Honda automatic transmissions. I will probably go ahead and get rid of this car before that happens and never buy another Honda again. I guess if you want to buy a Honda, stick with good old manual.

Update from Apr 14, 2015: April 3, 2015

so after changing those switches same thing is happening. another p177a light and lwd fwc time to call acura relations and talk about this.....

And Acura relations does nothing and they suck big time.

Dealer called in and said they called Acura and they are going to change the transmission under warranty. But I am just wondering why I should have been charged for something that was originally should have been under warranty.

April 14 2015 We got the car back and it seems like it is running so far so good. We will see if it will hold up
