Side Driver mirror EXPLODED. Yes, it exploded. Pulled out of driveway and drove about 50 feet when I heard a loud noise which really scared me. Made a U Turn and returned home. Beeped horn so my husband would come out. When exiting car I looked at tires thinking I blew a tire. What else could it be? There were no other cars on the road when I heard the noise and no people around. My husband came out and discovered the passenger outside mirror was shattered and there were scratches marks on the car where the shattered mirror hit it and there were scratches on the side window too.

The next day my husband took the car to Rick Case Acura in Fort Lauderdale Fla. They did not believe what happened even though there were no marks on the mirror case. They said I must have hit something which I did not. The mirror was pushed out. If I would have hit something it would have been pushed in. To make matters worse they wanted $1,250 to fix it. All they had to say is that is was not covered not insinuate we were not telling the truth. Also just replace the mirror as we wanted not give us a $1,275 bill.

This side mirror moves a lot. It is my husband's opinion that the mirror must have been loose and when I backed out of the driveway the mirror moved. When I started driving the mirror moved up (as it should) and then the mirror buckled hence the loud noise and shattered glass and scratches on the side of the car. This mirror also moves side to side.

Called customer support and after telling them my whole problem, they said they take the word of the mechanic. How could the mechanic know if the mirror was loose or not? Again there were no scratches or marks on the part the holds the mirror. Customer service said I could either go to another dealership or put the claim through my insurance company.

My husband then took the car to Napleton's Palm Beach Acura and explained it to them. They also did not believe what had happened. They ordered the mirror for us which we paid $200 for it and they installed the mirror (which is what my husband wanted at Rick Case Acura) for a total charge of $200.00. Yes only $200 not the $1,275 Rick Case wanted to charge. They did a great job and they were very nice to deal with.

I know people will say it is impossible for this to happen. It is not impossible because it did happen and over the years other people have had this happen and it is always the passenger side mirror.

This is a new car around $7,000 miles and as I said to customer service I think this is a defect and it will happen again. The car cost almost $50,000.

My husband and are I are senior citizens we felt we were treated extremely badly at Rick Case Acura. Just say it is not covered not tell us it could not have happened. It did happen and I know it will happen again to other people. I am very nervous driving the car now.

At our age, this is the last new car we will buy and now I am nervous about driving the car.

To everyone out there do not tell me this could not have happened. IT DID HAPPEN.

Our previous car was a Buick and their service was excellent.

P. S. Think twice about buying an Acura as their warranty and service stinks.

Update from Oct 7, 2021: Side mirror EXPLODED.
