They want to 'service' me!

Dear Audi Henderson:

I have a 2004 Audi A-6 Quattro 2.7. The center section of the dashboard lights (outside temp, various alarms, etc.) has stopped working. Please give me a repair estimate. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Chuck Dickerson

Hello Sir, thank you for contacting us regarding the repair of your Audi A-6 center information display.

In order to assist you correctly we would need to start with the vehicle identification of your car. The cluster is VIN specific and varies within this model. The best way we can assist you is to have the failure diagnosed, in the event it might me something other than a faulty display. If you provide the VIN, I can get a very rough estimate as to the cost of the cluster and install time – this would not take the other factors I mentioned into account.

Would you like to schedule one hour of diagnostics?

Very best regards,

Hi Nancy:

The VIN number is WAUCD64B14N072170. According to the Audi Forums this is a common failure so you should be able to give me a fairly accurate estimate. Thank you.

Chuck

Hello Sir.

Thanks for the VIN. We try to be as accurate as we can, and every little bit helps. Based upon your VIN number, replacing the cluster estimate should be in the area $ 950 plus $ 76.95 NV Sales Tax and core charge. I must say ‘should be’, as even with the VIN, there is always a chance variance in the part numbers on the actual cluster, and we would not know the exact part cost until be pull the present unit and verify the true part number. The installation time would be 1.5 hours or $ 208.50. FYI, in this procedure, we would need all keys present during the re-program – as any missing keys would be rendered inactive by the new programming. Total rough estimate of replacing just the cluster part, with core, sales tax, and re-program would be $ 1,234.45.

How may we assist you Sir?

Best regards,

Hi Nancy:

$1234.45!? Does your service department supply the Vaseline or should I bring my own?

Sincerely,

Chuck
