A couple weeks after spending $1000 on maintenance, the battery malfunction light came on while I was driving to work. I made it safely off the highway and to the dealership (Bill Jacobs, Naperville, IL). They suggested it may just be the battery, but could also be the alternator. They gave me a loaner and sent me on my way. It was confirmed later in the day that both the battery and alternator were about dead. I had to wait several days for an alternator, and the total cost to me was $1609. I bought the car new in 2013 and it has 116,000 miles now (7/2019), and this was the original manufacturers battery - not sure how long they usually last. The alternator being just about dead too was painful though.
