Purchased the car used, sounded great, ran great. One month later, a ticking noise started under the hood. Car was still under Certified Pre-owned warranty. Took it into the BMW dealer, they took the car overnight, gave me a nice loaner. Next day they had replaced some valve components on the intake side of the engine. Problem went away for about two weeks. Took it back.. .this time they replaced valve components on the exhaust side of the engine, lasted about a month.... again started ticking. They took the car in again... this time for three days. They replaced the complete head, this had to be approved by BMW in overseas for warranty. When I took the can in initially it was $50.00 to have it looked at and diagnosed. After that I didn't pay another dime... BMW took care of everything. The $$ at the bottom of the bill was $7460.00.... ouch, but was zeroed out / covered under warranty!

My warranty was three weeks from expiring.

I love driving this car even more than some of the newer BMW's but be prepared to loose your ass on repairs!

Soon after purchasing 3 series BMW it started to making a valve ticking noise. I took it to the dealer on several occasions. They stated that this was a common problem with these vehicles. My response to them was that I own a 1998 beat up chevy pick up truck that doesn't make any unusual noises and that if they did not fix the problem i would never buy or recommend another BMW. They had the car for 2 weeks and BMW USA agreed to fix the problem. They had to replaced the the whole top end of the engine. They did it under warranty.
