535 Wagon 3L 300 Hp I 6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,610 miles

Well maintained vehicle bought from Demayo Auto in Seaside Cal., and made approx 28 miles before serpentine belt grenaded. Seller stood behind 90 day warranty, and had vehicle towed back and repaired. I would buy another car from this auto dealer without a second thought.

(The BMW Dealer near the location of the incident had estimated $5,000 to pull the pan and check for crankshaft nose seal integrity.)

I bought this car because of past familiarity with BMW inline 6 engines, whose reliability was excellent: and because they are fun to drive. I hope this incident was an anomaly.

I'm not mechanically familiar with this engine, but there should be some provision made by the manufacturer to keep a minor oil leak from getting on the belt.
