LeSabre Limited 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 174,000 miles

Car has been sitting in storage since 1/2/16. I started up last weekend moved it, and tried to start today. It clicked like battery was low then exploded and started on fire. Was lucky to be by my store and had a fire extinguisher and help to push it out of the storage building. When the hood was open flames were as high as the hood, fire would not go out used one large fire extinguisher to stop the blaze.

Vehicle has always been well maintained, no leaking head gaskets, clean motor. If you have one of these please be sure to check for recalls on this motor. If one of my kids would had this happen to them it could have been a lot worse.... They would not have had a fire extinguisher and would not know what to do.

LeSabre Custom 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,000 miles

This problem was due to the Intake manifold warping. I can understand this one time but twice in two years. This car has no had many ups but a lot of downs. The auto repair shop owner said this is a common problen due to the type of metal (aluminum) used to manufacture it. I wonder if Buick does this to keep their dealership service departments open. I suppose I would care more if they had responded to any one of the three letters I had written to their corporate officers with my concerns. Won't buy another Buick ever again !!!!

Turned the iginition key and heard loud boom like an m-80 going off. Smoke began pouring out from under the hood. When I opened it the engine compartment was on fire which thankfully was not too hard to put out. The intake manifold was completely blown apart. Car was a piece of $hi# anyway but at least it got me where I wanted to go. Now it is just a hunk of useless metal. After reading of others experiences with this same thing happening it seems to me that we deserve an explanation of why this would happen and a free fix. I now have no vehicle on top of being unemployed.

LeSabre Limited 3800

  • Automatic transmission
  • 115,000 miles

Own a 2001 Buick LeSabre for a school car. Been smelling something hot. Real noticeable when pulling into the garage. Smells like anti-freeze. Recently told that the intake gasket needs to be replaced before it leads to engine overheating or locking up. Est cost. $500. It is too bad that GM doesn't stand behind the defective intake gasket that was originally installed on these engines.

LeSabre Custom 3800

  • Automatic transmission
  • 126,576 miles

The car had been setting for about a month and the battery had gone dead. I used my truck to jump it off, and when I turned the key to try to start it, I heard a BIG BOOM. I had the hood up and got out of the car to see what the hell had happened. The engine was on fire, and my wife had heard it also and came to check on me. I then noticed the engine cover was gone, ALONG WITH THE OIL FILLER TUBE, TOP OF THE PLASTIC INTAKE, and the engine and fire wall were still burning so I grabbed a fire extinguisher and put it out. wondering if this is a factory defect or what I can do about it. Thanks for letting me VENT.
