Avalanche 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,085 miles

After hearing a strange sound coming from somewhere, a Chevy Service writer and a mechanic diagnosed the problem as both of my front wheel bearings. After they fixed that problem at a cost of almost $1,200. the mechanic took my 2004 Avalanche for a test drive, and guess what? That strange mysterious sound was still there. Great for me. I didn't have to pay for that mistake, but, look at the bright side, I was out of my vehicle for only a day for bearings I didn't need.

Now to the real problem. My DIFFERENTIAL has left for a vacation and did not ask me to accompany her. The mechanic stated that he could not detect any oil in my differential and it was in need of dire repair. Another $1,700.00, of which I was most happy to oblige.

Since I change my oil every 5,000 miles, I called my Chevy dealer and asked my Service Writer if they checked the oil in the differential every time. And he said "oh yeah". Then I called 8 more Oil Change Facilities and each one stated that they always check the oil in the differential on each oil change. In my opinion from what I have read, others have had the same problem at about 70,000 miles.

Evidently CHEVROLET knows it had problems or they would not have made a change the following year. If my Dealer had checked the oil maybe my DIFFERENTIAL would not have went on vacation without me.

Next time I'm going with a Ford, Honda, Toyota, Horse, Bicycle, anything but a Chevrolet. Thanks for Listening, you can go to bed now. by by johnny b.
