Avalanche Z71 5.3L 8 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

Had speedometer go crazy/stick. Did some homework and found that the stepper motors that drive all of the instrument panel gauges were prone to failure for many Chevy products. Since I consider myself handy, decided to change out all 6 motors myself. Found replacement motors on Ebay for about 5 bucks apiece. Fairly easy job - just have to be sure that you don't overheat solder joints.

Avalanche LT 350

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles

The speedometer has totally quit working after a time of sporadic issues, I know that GM knew of these faulty speedometer clusters as I read about them online for several years. Many folks have lost the use of their gauges with not a peep of help from GM even though they were proven to be faulty. I have had several items go wrong with the most expensive vehicle I have ever owned from the a/c heater, to rust out, to no speedometer. I am totally finished with GM.

GM should be held accountable for all the faulty equipment on these vehicles. I received a speeding ticket because of the failed speedometer. I rely on the tachometer for speed control. Priceless!

Avalanche LT V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 49,700 miles

Driving on interstate and spedomiter stuck on 62 MPH. Now it goes to 100 - 115 in town at speeds of 30 - 50 MPH but never goes to 0. This is the second time I have had this problem on my 2005 Avalanche (49700 miles). I think there is a design flaw that should be recalled by Chevrolet.

Avalanche

  • Automatic transmission
  • 51,022 miles

My 2005 Avalanche speedometer went out to 120 miles an hour while sitting in the garage. So the needle is now in the extreme side not coming back at all. Avalanche Chevy should fix this problem, not trying to pretend there is no problem. THis will be my last Avalanche if they dont fix this problem. Aloha

I was just driving down the road at 30 MPH and the speedometer just jumped to 120 and stuck there. This is the first problem with the Avalanche and after I find out what it's going to cost to fix it might be my last thing to fix on this truck. It might be time to SELL...............

I can't believe these people! This problem is an old problem why can't they take care of it. No wonder they are going under. Where is the made in America pride? I own a 1999 Toyota and all i have done to that car is oil and brakes. Sahme on you GM!
