I spent extra money for a special coating which then refused to honor their warranty because this was a known problem of this year and color of avalanche. Chevy then states nobody else has this problem. The dealership finally agreed to fix when I stated I would put a sign in my window explaining that this is what should be expected if you buy a new car from Chevy. However this repaint only lasted 18 months. At this point I gave up. I hope my vehicle is an advertisement helping others to not make the same mistake.

So my 07 door moldings started turning white, after research I found its door to the process from mfr. They are clear coated following paint separate from the vehicle. Its something about a flaw in the clear coating that causes it to fail hence exposing the paint to the elements. Now the good news is if you have 35k miles or less your covered under warranty according to Courtesy Chevrolet in San Diego. Bad news anything over that will cost $800 to do all four, they wont just repaint and coat but order brand new ones ($300 of the price.) PLUS it will be warrantied as long as you own the vehicle. Which I think is odd, first time around you pay $40k and up depending on model it gets a partial warranty but if your willing to sink in almost another grand they'll cover you for life???????
I checked with several shops, cost to do depends if they have to remove or you do, then if you do take them off yourself if you'll re-install. Prices varied up to $300-$500. Obviously it causes no harm to the vehicle but its just an eyesore. I have tried many products andeven re-clearcoating it but it just masks it for a week or so then wears off.
Good Luck!

Paid 56,000.00 for a vehicle and the paint now is showing how inferior it was done. The plastic door molding is changing color. Have extended coverage but dealer pointed out paint is not covered. Really bugs me every time I look at it.

Other than the discoloured trim, I honestly can't find anything to bitch about with this truck. My dashboard is cracked. The engine uses 1 quart of oil a month, no leaks and doesn't burn. I was told because it switches back and forth between 4 and 8 cylinders, that mechanism uses the oil. (?) I now have 223000 miles and she is still running strong. I wish I could address the rust bubbles around the roof line and wheel wells. Not surface rust and not showing, just pimples under the paint. I love this truck, but I would sell it for the right offer.
