Avalanche LTZ 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 63,000 miles

GM says the new pistons and rings will solve the oil consumption. it will take another 60,000 miles to prove them correct, or not. if they are wrong then am I just out of my $50,000 for the truck, or are their covered warranty repairs warrantied for life?? that is how it should be. my engine has an energy saving feature where 4 cylinders drop out when cruising without torque. but pistons still go up and down. Vacuum above piston 'sucks' oil past rings and is burnt. Causing engine to run itself outa oil. THAT reality did not get changed, so it is still happening. GM says new rings and pistons are different and problems is cured.!?

HOW? engine switches between 4 and 8 cylinders many times each minute. this energy feature is a disaster, avoid it at all costs. GM came up with it to get around some stupid epa rule on fleet mileage. tied to carbon emissions, cow farts, global freeze your ass off warming, and alan gore inventing the internet.

Could GM build a better truck if the epa shut up and shut down? worth a try.

Avalanche LX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,000 miles

We love the truck but at 55,000 miles it started burning oil. The oil light came on even though we were not at 3,000 miles or ready for a oil change. Mechanic notified us that our oil was low. Took it to the dealer and found nothing wrong. Next oil change same thing and mechanic noticed oil was dirty. Took it to dealer and they said they never heard of such a problem with the Avalanche but we had a few other things wrong and it cost us $400 to fix since those things were not under warranty. 3000 miles took it for an oil change and it had buned 4 quarts in 3000 miles. I went on line and saw other Avalanche owners with similar problem. What to do?

Avalanche LT3 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,000 miles

Having the same dam problem as other individuals that have a 2007 Chevy Avalanache- Love my truck and it has been driving fine till i hit the 55,000 miles. The Engine oil low/Add oil light warning came on. Took it to the dealer and they advised that it is normal for these type of trucks to burn oil. They performed an Oil Consumption test and advised me that since my las oil change in July 8, 2011 to Dec 26, 2011- my vehicle had lost 1 1/2 quarts in 3900 miles (5 months) and that this is normal for GM.

They did another consumption test and advise to check the engine oil everytime i stop to put gas (Yeah, who the hell is really going to do that) and the next time the it drops a quart to bring it in. I printed out all these complaints to show them and they advised that it is normal on those trucks bu..... sh.....

Called Chevrolet customer service and explain to them the issue that i am having and about the complaints and they responded to just do what the dealer says, idiots.

This is the last and final time that i will buy a Chevrolet Truck. I paid $43,000 + tax & license for a fully loaded truck that is consuming 1 1/2 quarts every 3700 miles after an oil change. I even have a GM credit card with a balance of $1,800.00 towards a new vehicle which i am going to cancel.

I will probably trade in my truck for a FORD or DODGE or a TOYOTA. I still cannot believe that is normal for a practically new truck to consume that much oil. All 3 prior vehicles that i have had I have never had to put oil in them...... I am very disappointing and pis..... off with Chevrolet. I will tell all friends and family members to never buy a Chevrolet truck.....
