Car went to 500 RPM then dropped to 300 RPM then down to 100 RPM; I immediately pulled off the main road to a side street. Lost power steering and was unable to restart car again. Car taken to local mechanic after running diagnostic tests on the vehicle, determined the car was savable and that the timing belt broke causing three sets of valves to bend. The timing belt kit, head gasket, water pump and valve kits need to be changed. The engine needs to be reconditioned; new engine oil needs to be put into the car along with flushing the fluids. Since this is a massive rework of the vehicle, it will be out of service one week and the repair cost is $2,100. Mileage on the car is under 60,000, I am original owner. General Motors - Chevrolet division contacted because I did not take to a GM dealer for service (unable to afford) and because they advised me this is so far out of the warranty, they would not offer any assistance. However, I did look up a service bulletin and it did say the parts are under warranty.

Lane change resulted in steering failure and roll-over of vehicle. The right front tire was flat after the accident. Was the accident caused by the steering or the tire? driver escaped with bruising only. Seat belt held. General Motors has been notified & is investigating.

I have had many problems with the steering and suspension in this vehicle. I had to replace the tires at less then 16,000. The main problem is that whenever I go over any bumps the car squeaks and makes a grinding sound. Chevy said that they had tightened something in the front end to tight at the factory and that they had 3 or 4 Aveos come back with this problem. They loosened they two pieces but I still hear the squeaks and they tell me that there is something in the back end that is grinding but it is a manufacturing defect and that they cannot do any thing. And they hope it doesn't do anything. If it does as long as it is under warranty they will fix it. But I would hate for something to break and me be going 70 and it break.

Car type: Chevrolet Aveo 2005 model: Ls sedan with 14" wheels since I purchased this car it has exhibited vibration in the front end and steering wheel while driving (above 50 mph) as well as vibration while braking. Car was taken into Chevy to be repaired. Car still vibrates. Upon further research I discovered that many others have this exact problem. Chevy has been unable to fix this problem. Significant vibration while driving and braking (especially) is a safety hazard. Since Chevy is either unwilling or unable to fix this serious problem I'm hoping the NHTSA will investigate this problem.
