Blazer 6-cyl

  • 165,000 miles
The contact owns a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that the air conditioner would not function. In addition, the radiator hose was leaking and the vehicle was taken to a repair shop for inspection. The contact was informed that there was a crack on the block (heater core) of the radiator. The radiator hose was leaking at the connection of the hose. The vehicle also overheated at times, in which the mechanic stated that this failure was included in NHTSA campaign id number 06E043000 (fuel system, gasoline). The dealer refused to perform the recall repair because other work needed to be done at the contact's expense. The current mileage was 169,123 and failure mileage was approximately 165,000. Updated 09/15/08 the consumer stated brown sludge was found in the radiator. Updated 09/18/08.

Shortly after I purchased my 1996 Chevy 4X4 Blazer, the air conditioner stopped working. After getting this serviced, and not using it during the winter months. I took it in to have it checked again and was told the condenser was bad and would have to be replaced. This has not only happened on this vehicle, but also on the Chevrolet truck we had owned before. While talking with the mechanic he said that he has work on lots of Chevy with trouble in the condenser. I think this matter should be researched and taken care of.

Most of the problems that surfaced had already been repaired at least once. Most of the problems had already been repaired at least once under warranty and have recurred. The A/C seal leaked and needed a pump. There were problems with the idler pulley, oil filter lines, crank shaft, door hinges, power steering, throttle positioner sensor 2, left front axle seal, and the differential side covers.

Air conditioner first failed about 3 years ago (still under warranty at the time). Dealer refilled..said could not find leak. Little over year later same occurrence...dealer refilled. August of 2001 occurred again...this time dealer put dye in so could find leak when it happened again....did not notice til warm weather this year that it had failed again...took to dealer and had refilled again...this time dealer said leak was found at compressor...said compressor was going bad and would cost about $500 dollars to correct. Am filing same info with Chevrolet. This is my 4th Blazer but lots of problems with this one. 4 recalls...defective door panel...replaced at Chevrolet's ok after reporting to the company.

At approximately 46,000 miles, the air conditioning in my Blazer died. The condensor, etc. All need to be replaced. My independent dealer relayed to me that he has had three 1996 and a 1997 Blazer in for A/C failure in the last 6 months. He says it is due to "cheap parts".

I replaced all of the front ball joints, after 60,000 miles. As a result of the ball joints going bad it messed up my tires, so I had to get new ones. The ac compressor is making really lous noises, it sounds like it is defective bearings, on the front of the compressor.
