Rear rotors have areas which are missing pieces of surface area which reduce braking ability and prematurely or abnormally wear brake pads. I had an ase certified mechanic and a Chevy dealerships mechanic look at the rotors and they both determined the rotors are made of poor quality steel. I contacted GM about this and they stated that due to driving habits and area (weather), and that the warranty is over they will help with technical support only. Before having the rotors checked I could tell they were poor quality. Could NHTSA investigate other rotor cases and check with GM concerning the strength and quality of all their rotors and drums?

Vehicle was set on cruise control at 65mph. Engine revved and suddenly sped upto 80 mph plus. Consumer couldn't disengage cruise control and had no brakes. Consumer put vehicle in neutral, and the brake pedal went straight to floor. Emergency brake and foot brake finally kicked in to stop vehicle. Consumer had 2 kids in vehicle, and almost rear ended 1 vehicle. Vehicle was towed, and a GMC representative found nothing wrong. There was over $2300 worth of repairs to brake system. Also, calipes/rotors, shoes and pads were replaced 1 month before incident.
