Blazer 4WD 6-cyl

  • 26,000 miles
On several occasions, in the mornings when Blazer is cold and the weather is cold, I have heard a rumbling noise when I turn the steering wheel to the left. Once the vehicle is warmed up the noise goes away. The first day I took the the shop, the repair man said it was unusual but he did hear the noise and said it sounded like it was in the steering shaft. He made an appointment for the following day. While checking the vehicle they did not hear the noise. A week later, it was extremely cold and snowing, the noise returned I stopped on my way home from work and another mechanic heard the noise, he felt it was in the power steering system and made an appointment for the following day. On this appointment, they could hear the noise but " it was not loud enough to pinpoint where it was coming from" so they returned the vehicle to me. He made arrangements to keep the vehicle over night and give me a rental car. I told them that they should check it first thing in the morning as soon as they got there. Which they did not do. They waited until I returned later in the morning to test the vehicle and it had warmed up outside and could not be heard. They claim they have checked the power steering system and everything is fine. I am afraid that something may happen to the steering wheel or inside the steering system while driving and I will not be able to steer the vehicle or could be in an accident and possible injure myself or someone else.

My wife's 2001 Chevy Blazer made a hard right turn all by its self. She can't turn the steering back to the left and rolled down a 300 ft canyon. Thank god she lived to tell what happened. The car was a problem from the day we purchased it. One week into ownership the steering gearbox had to be replaced. 26,000 miles later the right wheel hub assembly failed. Fast forward to Feb 25, 2003 while driving home her Blazer turned right and lock to the right. From day one we always heard a popping noise but the dealer said there was nothing they could found. GM states there is nothing wrong we hired a lawyer. Thank you mycarstats.com for your complaint board.

I have reviewed other owners complaints regarding their front suspension, fuel pump with random shut offs. My vehicle is experiencing the same and similar problems. As of today my vehicle is in the shop;I was doing 35-40 mph when vehicle just un expectedly shut off. I was stranded on a major road which cause a significant traffic delay. I have an oil leak from the hose leading to my oil filter and the vehicle pull to the right sharply if I release the steering wheel. The vehicle makes a popping sound when turning. These problems are hard to find just an isolated incident when so many consumers are having the same problems.

The steering wheel was sensitive to the touch. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times to no avail.
