While parked in a grocery store parking lot with the manual transmission in neutral engine running, parking brake set the car began to roll backwards (downhill). I stopped the car, put the transmission into reverse, set the parking brake again and turned off the engine. The car began to roll away again. I tried engine on, engine off, in neutral, in reverse always with the parking brake set. This happened that day 6 times.
Due to the danger of the car rolling away again I had it towed to the local Chevrolet dealer. They drove the car and could not duplicate my problem. Instead they installed a sensor 3.682 and and element 3.410 which relate to the mass air flow sensor. They charged me $508.42 and said they couldn't find any reason for the car to roll away like I had experienced. I never had this experience in the 2 weeks that I owned the car and have not had this experience since. Someone told me I had been driving around all the time with the parking brake set. Ridiculous. I have owned a 1968 SS 396 Camaro 4 speed, I have owned 2 brand new Corvettes with manual transmissions. I even owned a Saturn with a 4 speed manual transmission. I think I know how to release a parking brake before I drive away in a manual transmission car.
Anyone else ever had this happen? If so what was the problem and how was it repaired? Camaro lover but mystified over this experience. Not to mention the $300 dollars that I paid to have the car towed to the dealer. Total cost to me $808.42
