The micro sensor will release the key while the car is placed into park. The plastic clip that holds that sensor has come loose, therefore the ignition stays on acc. and the battery goes dead. The dealer said it would be 300.00 but since it was so close to the warranty that it would be half price. After numerous complaints they said that they could fix it for 100.00 dollars. I got a second opinion and found out the problem was a small plastic clip. The dealer said it was a very common problem and would re-occur. They insist on replacing the shifter assembly entirely. At first they would not tell me the specifics of the problem nor did they show me the problem. This way they can make it sound more serious than it really is. I think a little super glue will do the trick. This was created to fail by GM. Another way of getting your money is to make things that wear out quickley(i.e. plastic parts and clips).

Well, I left something on over night and of course the battery went dead. In the morning I stuck the key in the ignition to see if any electronics came on but of course none did. Then I found that I couldn't get the key out. Great! To get a jump, I need to get to the battery which is in the trunk. To open the trunk, I need the key... the key is stuck in the ignition! What a stupid problem. But finally after trying a few things, I figured out that underneath the ignition, there's a little door that pops open fairly easily. Once I popped it open, I took a look inside and saw a little white button. When I clicked the button, the key was released! YES! I can finally get my car started on go on my date. I hope this saves someone's ass like it did mine.
