July 19th 2014 I purchased a 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 from autonation Ford in littleton Colorado.July 26th after returning home I parked the car in my garage. When I came out to move the car later that afternoon the steering column would not unlock. There was a message on the driver information center that said "service column lock". I immediately called autonation Chevrolet, since the vehicle is Chevrolet, to see if I could get some advice on how to resolve the issue. The service manager checked with a technician and I was told that the car would need service. Autonation Chevrolet referred me to autonation Buick GMC. The car was towed to autonation Buick GMC on the morning of July 27th 2014. After determining that their dealership was incapable of doing the repair autonation Buick GMC had the car towed to ed bozarth Chevrolet park meadows for repair. I researched the issue & found out that the "service column lock" issue was a recall issue in 2004 for Corvettes. The "service column lock issue also effects the fuel system and limits the car to 2 mph. First notification of the recall went out to owners on August 2nd 2004. I contacted GM on Aug. 1st 2014, 1 day short of the 10 year limit on recall work. Ed bozarth informed me that the repair would not be covered under the recall. I then contacted GM corporate to inquire about the recall. GM corporate informed me that the recall work had been done on my Corvette in 2006. Since the same "service column lock" issue arose, the recall work failed. I asked GM corporate if they would cover the failed recall repair and I was told that they wouldn't. I would ask that since GM's recall work did not solve the "service column lock" issue that they cover the approximately $1500 repair that I had to pay for to get my car back in a drivable state.

I have a 2002 Corvette convertible. Each time the fuel tank is filled there is a strong fuel odor smell in the passenger compartment of the car. Even with the top down the smell causes headaches and nausea! all it will require is a single spark to cause death! it is time to force a recall on all 1997 to 2004 C5 Corvettes!

Fuel tank leaks when fueling car. This seems to be a common issue with the Chevrolet Corvette in the years 2000-2004. On all public forums this defect is reported by many Corvette owners. Why isn't the epa or the NHTSA investigating all of the years instead of just the 2004 models" the recall should be expanded. What is the delay? should someone die in a fire first" or should we band together and file a class action suit against all parties, including the NHTSA.

I own a 2002 Chevrolet Corvette that has recently developed a serious fuel leak when refueling car. Not only is this a fire hazard but also the leak allows raw gas to be released into the atmosphere, a pollution problem. I did a search on this problem on a Corvette web site ( corvetteforum.com ) and found this to be a wide spread problem in the C5 versions of the Corvette. The car was built on 4-3-02, and first delivered on 7-19-02. I am the second owner, car has 51,156 miles, has had all required maintenance performed and is kept in like new condition. Since this is a wide spread problem with this particular vehicle, and the safety and pollution hazards it presents I feel GM should be required to repair at no cost to the consumer these blatant design errors. If nothing else, the repair should be covered under pollution laws. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

At about 15000 miles the fuel tank began leaking/smelling of gas after a fill up. Dealer did replace tank under the extended warranty. Dealer description: 25565 leaking fuel tank line L1280 2.1 (gmpp) inspected the fuel system for a leak and found the hard line to the top of the fuel tank is leaking at the connection to the tank. Removed the fuel tank and drained the tank. Swapped the sending unit and installed the new tank. Repairs were done on the right side tank. Tech 2310.
