Cruze 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 101,850 miles

I bought the car from a dealer 3.5 years ago and never made it home due to transmission issues. I contacted the deal and said buy it back or fix it. they towed it, fixed it along with 19 recall items. I have put approximately 33 thousand miles on the car and the transmission went out with no issues or notice there was a problem. I had it towed to the dealer the did the repair the first time. I talked to them on the phone before towing it and was told it might be covered by a warranty. Once they got the car they said I needed a transmission for 6000.00 dollars.

I towed it to another transmission shop and I am waiting for their quote.

I have learned that the 2012 Cruze transmission is and has been junk with thousands of complaints. I called General Motors and the lady I spoke to said she would file the complaint. While we were talking I told her of the site I was on with all the complaints and she looked at it and stated it was horrible all these people had to go through this and said it was not right. General Motors got back to me yesterday, on a Sunday and told me they would not help with the issue. The service man at the dealership told me over the phone these transmissions have bad pumps and it does not keep the fluid moving the way it should and the fluid over heats and wipes out the transmission.

Once I arrived to have the car towed from them, I ask him to put all of what he said in writing and he refused to. This is wrong and people should not have to deal with this expensive problem that is from a faulty design. I would appreciate it if someone could connect with me so we cane hopefully have a Class Action Lawsuit against General Motors. Please reach out. We have nothing to lose except a little bit of time.

Cruze 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,985 miles

I bought this Cruze from a Chevy dealer and had problems before I made it home. Apparently the dealer had cleared the engine light before selling it. The transmission went out before I made it home. The salesman followed me home in order to take me back to my vehicle I drove there to the dealership. The dealer was closed when I got back to pick up my other vehicle, but the salesman knew of the issue.

I called the next day and said fix it or take it back. They sent a tow truck, picked it up and took it to a dealership to have it repaired. While it was there there were 19 recall issues fixed. They returned the car and everything was fine until the transmission went out again after only 32 thousand mile since the repair. I called the dealership that did the repair and they said it could be a warranty repair. I paid 300 to have it towed and then they told me the next day I needed a 5800 dollar transmission.

I am going to have to have it towed home because I don't have the money. When I saw talking to the service man he told me the fluid was dark, burnt and contaminated and I would need a transmission. I ask him how the fluid could be this way after only 30+ thousand miles and he said the transmissions sometimes did not pump the fluid properly and that caused the issue.

I did research and found out this is a flaw in these transmissions of the 2012. It is happens often and repeatedly in these year transmissions. I have filed a complaint with General motors because they are passing their bad transmissions to the customers. I told General Motors they would repair it or I would get everyone together for a class action law suit. They want us to junk it and buy another care or sell us a new transmission. PLEASE EVERYONE, LET'S GET TOGETHER AND HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR JUNK TRANSMISSIONS. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL. THEY HAVE DEFECTIVE PUMPS THAT CAUSE THEM TO BURN UP INSIDE. PLEAS, LET'S COME TOGETHER ON THIS. THANK YOU. CONTACT ME. THIS IS SO WRONG...THANK YOU

Cruze LS 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 104,000 miles

I was riding in my girlfriends car when she tried to accelerate from a light and it lurched after that it wouldn't shift right and by the time we arrived at the 2nd light it was consonantly shifting in and out of gear so we pulled into a Walmart parking lot where I noticed smoke coming from inside the transmission. So I brought it home and changed the fluid but it didn't make a difference, I'm 90% sure the transmission is fried.

Also I would like to point out the fact in the owners manual it basically tells you not to worry about the condition of the fluid, hence why they didn't take the effort to install a transmission dipstick. If I would have seen how awful the condition of the fluid was in the first place I would have never bought the car! It's sad the quality of American made cars today I wouldn't recommend the Cruze or any other Chevy product with a 6 speed transmission to anyone this car deserves the "avoid this like the plague" sticker. Garbage!

Update from Nov 13, 2018: update, it started working fine the day we took it to a shop, but the next day it started slipping and grinding the gear, it made it 3 miles and then was cooked, when the car went into limp mode it would go into 6th gear at 25 mph and wouldn't shift into any other gear and eventually it wouldn't go into any gear at all.
