For a few months my key was having trouble turning in my ignition as well as my spare key. It finally stopped working all together. I had to get my car towed and had to have the housing and ignition replaced. My mechanic has informed me this is an ongoing problem with the Equinox models. My friend and I have the same model but different years and are realizing we are having the same issues. If this is such a problem for Chevy they need to place it on the recall list instead of consumers having to pay $450 for something they know is an existing problem.

My 2006 Chevy Equinox has trouble starting. The problem used to be intermittent, but has become more regular over the years. I have taken it to three different dealers to diagnose and they say there is no problem or they were unable to duplicate the issue. When the problem occurs it will only start if you hold the gas pedal to the floor. Otherwise, it will just crank and then turn off. I have seen many complaints about this online and found that the 2005 Equinox seemingly has the same problem and was issued a recall. I work hard to pay the bills and need someone to acknowledge the problem that these vehicles sre having.

Last summer the ac in my car started to act weird, I just had bought the car and didn't think much of it for a while. Then, after having my daughter and having her get over heated because the ac was freezing up I decided to take it to a repair place that told me that there was a plastic versus a metal arm that opens a door that allows the cold and hot air flow to go through my car and that it needed to be replaced with in fact a metal one. This was going to cost me a lot of money, roughly 1000-1500 dollars of which I do not have, since summer was nearly over I decided it was not that critical and I drove other family members vehicles if I had a long way to drive so my baby didn't over heat in her car seat. Now as of today my heat isn't working, it is freezing outside and once again the safety of my child is at risk because she is cold. I have read tons of complaints online and reviews hat tons of people with the same car are having the same problem and that the metal arm replacement part is very cheap but that the labor is through the rood. I cannot afford the labor and I cannot afford my child to be over heated or freezing because Chevy/GM decided to be cheap and use a plastic piece instead of metal to save a buck or two. I want this to be recalled, this is affecting hundreds if not thousands of people who have gotten a 2006 Equinox. I would like something done about this as soon as possible because I cannot continue to put my child in an unsafe and uncomfortable environment.

2006 Chevy Equinox (49351 miles) just quit blowing hot air through vents or defroster. Dealer says a broken blend door cost $1500 to repair. Seems this make/model has the same problem at about 50000 miles. What is Chevrolet doing to help the purchasers of this vehicle. Not a [xxx] thing. Great customer service, I will never purchase another Chevy/GM product. Very dangerous situation in cool temps where windshield fogs up driving down the road. I guess it will take a fatality for Chevy to admit fault and correct this. Highly disappointed!!! information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Our car 2006 Equinox VIN [xxx] heater failed and defroster then did not work. December 5 my heater on this car failed to work causing dangerous conditions in my car as it was cold and defrost would not function. Window kept fogging over. Noted that there are multiple complaints on line about this. Reported this to Chevy. Part that determines heat vs cool fails, part costs about $38.22, Chevy charged over $1317 to repair as this part is in the dashboard and supposedly difficult to reach!! information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

In Oct 2010 the heat stopped working on my 2006 Chevy Equinox. At first I thought the problem might have been caused by air getting into the cooling system lines, because the coolant level in the reservoir had gotten a bit low. But adding coolant and trying to "burp" the system didn't fix the problem. Upon searching the web, I discovered that quite a few people had the same no-heat problem with the Chevy Equinox and Pontiac torrent (which is the same vehicle platform). It turns out the problem is caused by a small "door" that allows air to flow past the heater core. Apparently this "air temperature blend door" has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor, and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The trouble is... replacing this little part is not easy. It involves removing much of the dashboard, which takes a long time. Consequently, the cost to repair this problem at a GM dealer is around $1,000, give or take a few hundred bucks.

In October of 2010 my 2006 Chevy Equinox heater began blowing cold air. I did research and found a lot of Equinox owners are having the same issue. I went and received a diagnostics at the dealership and they said it is the temperature door and the repair cost is $1300. This is a safety issue because I am unable to defrost the windows if there is a snow storm or just being too cold. This happens whenever I turn on the heat and my concern is being able to see out the windshield if it fogs up or freezes. GMC has yet to issue a recall on the defective part. I have googled this problem and there is a website with over 400 complaints of consumers with the same issue and their vehicle being diagnosed with the same defective part.

2006 Chevy Equinox heater stopped working at 75K+ miles. I am told by dealer and numerous complaints online by same exact vehicle owners that this is a faulty and defective blender door arm. It was replaced with plastic versus metal for 2006 in effort to cut corners. They all consistently break at 3 years or more! very common complaint. It is a safety issue when you are driving in 20degree weather and constantly get sick! also unable to defrost ice and haze from wind shield since only cold air blows out! this diminishes the visibility significantly! if I can't see from my windshield and have to a) drive with window open and freeze, B) use hand to wipe off while driving or C) pull over constantly and clean off windshield or use the MINIplug in heater I had to purchase to help defrost my iced wind shield in the morning! over $1000 to fix. It is a defect. Please google this year and "heater" you will find many many websites with exact complaints. GM needs to acknowledge this and fix at no charge!

I have a 2006 Chevy Equinox that I bought brand new. I've had multiple problems with it. The first was issues with it not wanting to start. At that point it was still under warranty, and the dealership replaced the ignition. The problem has continued throughout the four years that I've had it, and now occurs almost every time I start my car. I've also had the heater blow cold air, and the dealer replaced blower door and actuator. I contacted GM, who agreed to pay half of the cost. That was in January of 2009. Since then, I've had multiple issues as well with the key getting "stuck" in the ignition. Usually after about 10 minutes of moving steering wheel back and forth, it will finally come out. This happened mostly this past summer when it was really hot outside. I've also heard clicking noises coming from the passenger side randomly when I turn my car right after my car has been parked and running for awhile. Another issue is revving up for no reason. Both times I was sitting at a stop light and then started to turn left and car revs up and seems to get stuck in gear then eventually kicks out. After reading the other reports, I am now scared that the next issue is going to be my car shutting down while I'm driving down the highway. I work in home health, therefore I am driving my car all day everyday. I also have a toddler and worry about his safety in my vehicle.

My 2006 Chevy Equinox starting blowing cold air in 2009. I took the car to my mechanic and discovered a plastic piece known as the blend door assembly is stuck or broken and it will cost over $1000 to repair. Without heat my windows will not defrost and it is a safety issue. I went to a site (www.topix.com/forum/autos/Chevrolet-Equinox/tnmhvcte76U9hgth4/P5) and found hundreds of GM owners are having the same problem. Please forced GM to recall this item.

The heating control on my vehicle has malfunctioned. The problem is permanent. There is no internal heat. As I live in a winter climate, the lack of heat with my blower has made defrosting my vehicle difficult to impossible. Upon further research, this exact problem has been diagnosed with at least several hundred vehicles of my make and model. The problem is a heating door mechanism that controls hot and cold. A local mechanic stated that Chevrolet would not provide a non-dealership the part to fix it. Chevrolet fails to acknowledge this as any safety concern. The dealership is offering to repair it for $1000.

I have a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox lt 3.4L AWD and everything worked fine, I did not use my heater allsummer long. I turned it on as of 10/10/2010 and there was no heat at all. It was only cold air. I heard this is a very common issue and in some areas can be considered a safety risk. I live in the midwest where during winter, there is always frost on windows. If I do not have heat to defrost windows or get ice and snow off, this causes a risk. And putting hot or warm water on the window risks cracking the window. Thanks for hearing me and this safety risk, it would be very nice to have this recalled as it is a common issue and is over $1000 to fix.

I have a 2006 Chevy Equinox and the heater has stopped working. The defroster does not work and according to the dealer it will cost atleast $1000 to repair a blend door that seems to be defective in alot of these vehicles. Seems to me that GMC should pay the price since so many are having this same problem.

I also had issues with my cd player. After inserting cd the player window announced for me to insert a disc. I ejected and tried again. Still it would not identify the cd as being loaded. I tried original cd's (brand new 1st time being played & older) as well as homemade copied cd's. none would read. This was only 5 months after purchased brand new. The cd player never worked again, however the radio did work fine. The dealer completely replaced the entire radio/cd/MP3 player after inspecting & found "internal failure".
