Equinox LS 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 88,000 miles

Feeling very upset! Just got a call from Chevy Service Center and was told that I needed to replace my transmission. WTF- my car was 2011- regularly service and maintained and had about 88,000 miles. They said it was an estimated price of $4700.00. What? for a 2011 transmission? If I was to fix it, I would be investing more than it's worth. I checked NADA- not worth it.

One thing I don't understand is why the heck did they put the dipstick, to check transmission oil, under the car, under a bracket that you have to unscrew to get to, instead of putting it under the hood like everyone else... oh, because you want mechanics to keep overpricing us, on something that the consumer can probably do with the help of YouTube of course.

I'm just so tired of investing on something that is so expensive, and always getting screwed. My car should out last my cell phone.

As I said before. This is the continuing saga of a vehicle that has had issue after issue and the reason I am making this issue known is that issues simply continue to happen with no way to know when or if the issues may ever come to and end.

Equinox LT 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 99,000 miles

The 6-speed electronic transmission has had very strange erratic shift patterns for many years. It is a "sealed system" with no dip stick, so the owner cannot check the fluid levels. The transmission intermittently fails to launch the car when pushing the gas pedal so that RPMs are high, but a 1-3 second delay causes extremely dangerous driving conditions when pulling out into traffic. It will hesitate long enough to leave you in harms way and then accelerate late causing oncoming traffic to brake for you (hopefully).

So I've always bought Chevy, I love their cars.. Any who, while driving home yesterday, my car started to act up and sputter.. Shift by itself and then when I got home I parked the car. I was really nervous to drive it. I noticed when I went to back up. I no longer can reverse my car.

Equinox LT 2.4L 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 86,056 miles

After travelling on the Interstate for 100 miles, I arrived at my exit and stopped at a light. The transmission banged and jumped hard into gear. After 300 yards it failed to engage at all. Called dealer to pick up with truck. After two weeks I was informed that there was a "plate" failure and GM was going to rebuild the transmission.

Update from Aug 31, 2015: The rebuilt transmission lasted only 4,000 miles before symptoms appeared again. The transmission banged into gear or sometimes would not engage at all after a stop. After several visits to the dealer, where they could not find any problem or computer record of the failures, the transmission failed completely with a lot of noise. Fortunatelly I was in town and had the car towed to the dealer again. This time GM agreed to replace the transmission. So far I have 5,000 miles on the new transmission with no problems.

Equinox LT W/1LT 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 62,000 miles

Took my car into the dealership to fix a jumping transmission. It would jerk once it reached 35 mph. It took them 3 weeks to fix the problem. Lucky for them I had a loaner and it was covered from the extended warranty

Do not buy this brand of car - its not worth the money.

Equinox LTZ 2.4L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 81,000 miles

Dec 23, 2014: While driving to work I crossed over a main highway when the car started to die when I accelerated. I pulled over. Shut the car. Restarted and the transmission loudly kicked back & forth and couldn't go into gear. I tried putting in reverse and the same thing. Finally the car would not go forward or reverse. I called dealer. They sent a flat bed. After 3 weeks they decided to install a new transmission when they found the "something" plate was broken. When I finally picked up the car they said it still didn't test smooth but to put 150 more miles on it to get used to my driving. It's getting worse again. I have an appointment to bring the car in for service tomorrow, Feb 4, 2015. This is the 3rd time this car is being brought in for transmission problems.

Update from Feb 6, 2015: January 4, 2015 - service department found a defective plate caused fluid to leak. Replaced plate and filled with fluid. Car is finally running smooth. No slippage or clunky noises from transmission.
