Equinox LX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,656 miles

I drove up to my sister's house to deliver a package that had been left at my house. As I pulled up behind my sister's car in her carport, my 2020 Equinox suddenly accelerated, lurched forward, rear-ended my sister's car shoving it under the frame of her double-wide! Both of my feet were on the brakes while the tires were still spinning and the engine revved! I managed to get it backed up, put it in park, and shut it off. Her car had been sandwiched between my car and the house. It all happened so fast!

I bought the vehicle new from a local Chevy dealer. It had 60 miles on it when I purchased it. It is now at 1,656 miles. I called the dealer and talked with the service manager. I was told that my floor mats caused the car to accelerate. I asked if I could have the vehicle towed to their dealership. I was told that I would have to pay the $150 diagnostic fee. I have done more research and found that several different year Equinoxs have had this same sudden unexpected acceleration. I wrote a letter to General Motors, I have filed an incident with the NHTSA, https://suddenacceleration.com/ , https://www.carproblemzoo.com/chevrolet/equinox/car-accelerates-on-its-own-problems.php , and anyone else who would listen. I honestly believe this vehicle should be replaced. Even if they say they have "fixed" the problem, how do I know they actually fixed it? I had already had the windows tinted, put a trailer hitch receiver installed and purchased some pricey floor mats to protect the carpet. I feel like I have lost that money as well.
