HHR LT

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,000 miles

At the time we had our car in for the oil change when the keys got stuck...The gear shift control now moves freely from park to drive without pushing in the button....again did not have this problem until we went into the dealership for an oil change.

HHR LT V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 46,970 miles

got home from store..tried to put car in park and take the key out...normal right!

But this time the button on the shifter will not engage or pop out so you can take the key out of the ignition...can not turn the car off, my foot is on the brakes and the shifter will move through all the gears without engaging the shifter button....called the dealer, drove the car in. Next day he calls and says, " the key assembly needs replacing ( $300.00). Then he calls again and said the shifter assembly is broken, needs replacing ($400.00)

Today I find out that this is a BIG problem with the HHR's from 2006-2010 models. I have found a BUTT-LOAD of complaints about this on the net { key stuck in ignition coupled with shifter assembly issuses}

I even found out in 2009 there was a recall to fix the shifter problems but I never received one.

Buyers of Chevy HHR's beware.

Maybe I can get some "bail out money to get it fixed.

HHR 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 67,476 miles

The stick shift button that must be engaged in order to shift broke. Now the shifter can move without the button being engaged. The main concern of this is that if the shifter is bumped while driving I could end up in a variety of gears. None of which would be good. I have not called the dealership for a repair estimate yet.
