My CEL came on one day and I got it evaluated and the EGR Valve code came up. I was doing bad in mileage so I figured this could be the problem. The Chevy dealer never got this code when I took it in to them by the way. I got the code at Jiffy Lube and took it to Chevy because the code came up unknown, and I figured Chevy would have more experience. Code never came up even after I showed them the paper from 10 minutes ago where I got it checked. I didn't even ask them to run a dyno on it, which they still did. I simply asked could someone tell me what this code is and how to fix it. I ended up paying $125 for nothing, they killed my car battery, and did something to where all of my warning lights went haywire and would flash all of the warning lights within a 1 second period. I changed the EGR Valve anyway and the code never went away. My EGR valve I already had was still new looking, no clog or anything, and I know you usually can just clean it out but getting a used car I wanted new parts anyway. SOLUTION: Searched online and supposedly the only way to get this code removed, and pass your inspection may I add, is to hook up the diagnostic machine and reset the CEL and simultaneously cut your car off AT THE SAME TIME! You can then detach your battery wire for a second just to be safe it went through. Wait a minute or two and then crank up. Code should be clear. If not just try again being more precise in your timing. It took some digging to get this solution but the problem is that your EGR Valve has a level sensor and over time the level of the Valve moves and causes the CEL to come on. Replacing doesn't change the level but this "Hard reset" makes the computer reset the level of the EGR to the level it is currently at and not the Factory level of 12 years ago.
