Impala LS V6

All of a sudden my instrument panel went nuts. I was sitting at a stop light when my fuel gauge went all the way to full and then dropped to empty so the warning sound went of. also check engine light goes on. my mechanic turned of the check engine light and it stayed of, but the fuel gauge is still crazy. What a pain in the ass!
