The Impala (2006) has the 4T65-E transmission that has a problem with the valves in the valve body getting stuck in the bores. The transmission has to have the side cover removed and the valve body, pump assembly, removed for servicing and cleaning!

Yup! Another Chev. Piece of XXXX. Only 43000 miles and the tranny's slip-bumping all over the place.

I purchased my 2006 impala 2 months prior of the transmission input clutch seals going bad , started slamming into gear from a stop. To top that off I had only put a 1000 miles on it before it went bad. The bad thing is before I bought the car the sales guy from where I bought the car from told me he had the car all checked out by the dealership and that it was basically a GM certified vehicle.

Impala

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

I bought this car April 2012. It is a 2006 Chevrolet Impala and has about 83,000 on it. Starting last month my car has started giving a hard clunk when shifting into gears. It is an intermittent problem and I am going to have it checked out tomorrow. From what I can see, this is a VERY common problem with the Impalas. I can say this to all GM and Chevrolet manufacturers, "THIS WILL BE THE LAST CHEVY I WILL EVER BUY!" This is the first time I have bought an American car in 20 years and it will be my last. That is sooo said because I am VERY American. However, I had two Hondas for 10 years each and drove both in excess of 170,000 miles before having significant problems with anything!! Now before I even hit 90,000 miles it appears that I am having a serious transmission problem. Geez! What is up with that. If you cannot make something right, then don't even bother making it. AND.. this is not an isolated incident.. This issue is EVERYWHERE on the internet. Oh why didn't I do my research..

Impala LT V6

First took it to the IL dealership that sold us the car and they put a mount/brace on the left side. It didnt' cure the problem. Then we went to another dealer who tore it all apart and replace a bent gear and there was an excessive amount of shavings in transpan. Changed the fluid and put it back together. We still have the same problem and the dealership who did the work is now out of business. We called GM because of not being satisfied and GM notified the first dealer and mechanic didn't find the problem. Then a service director went with husband and made it do it numerous times. On going back to dealership after the test drive, told husband it was not necessary for him to go back inside. He said he would take care of it. When GM called us back they were told there was no problem although the service director did it numerous time. I thought it was fishy that he didn't want my husband to come back in. It was woman's intuition that they were going to screw us over. GM said that the dealership were his eyes and ears, so it was the dealership's word over ours.
