problem #3

May 012014

Impala LT 6 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 87,000 miles

I have been LIVING with it but it has gradually got LOUDER. Initially it would knock for about 30 seconds and then stop. More recently, as I said, it has got LOUDER and not only does it KNOCK LOUDLY for 30 seconds, it stops then KNOCKS LOUDLY a SECOND TIME for another 30 seconds.

I have heard from NUMEROUS Impala owners that theirs does this....THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS TO GET IT FIXED!!!!!!!

Impala LT 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,926 miles

Turned on A/C system to defrost and large noise from the right side dash was unsettling and disruptive to my drive to work. Turned it on and off several times - had no choice to shut it off completely.

Impala LT 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 160,000 miles

EVERY time I unlock my door or trunk the noise begins! I can lock and unlock my car 100 times and the noise will occur 100 times! It begins like a knock at the door for about 30 seconds; then it ramps up to the sound of a woodpecker on steroids for an additional 30 seconds. Everyone I meet that owns, previously owned, or knows someone who currently or previously owned an Impala tells me "they all do that".

The noise is very annoying and embarrassing. Even though the problem does appear to be life threatening, it seems like a defect with the a/c system and I should not have to pay for it. Every car I have owned since approximately 1982 has been a Chevrolet. I have owned a 1977 Chevy Malibu, 1984 Celebrity, 1988 Caprice Classic, 1996 Lumina and my current car. Some were new and some used, but I never had this a/c problem. Only one car needed to have the engine replaced! I had a mechanic unplug the wire because I cannot afford to repair the problem right now and I dreaded the noise.
