My right rear tire blew out as I was pulling onto the highway. There was a loud noise and I thought I had hit something. The tire was the original from the factory and since I purchased the car new I feel that the tires should have lasted longer. I contacted the dealer and GM GM said "I'm sorry" but the warranty is not valid anymore. The dealer said I must have hit something to cause the tire to blow, I did not hit anything.
I went and bought a set of new tires and the tire dealer said it blew because it was a "one ply tire" . Who puts a one ply tire on a new vehicle? It was 110 degrees that day which might have contributed to the cause but still it should have held up in any condition. I put 6 ply tires on my car. The mileage was 14,000. This is definitely a safety issue and I feel I could have caused an accident or death if I had been going 70 miles a hour.

WOW! This was the first time. 27,750 miles. Rear tires down to the cords on the inside edges. I was not happy. My wife and grandchildren are in this car "alot". I put 4 new V rated tires on and had the Chev dealer do a 4 wheel alignment. I asked the dealer if they had seen this before. Oh no! your the first one. You just need tires and alignment. I told him that a few people had complained about the tire wear on the internet. His comment was, we don't pay any attention to that stuff. Okay, I thought I was all set. Off I go. Then the same thing again at 58,000 miles.

Well, this time I got a little smarter and put on a nice pair of used rear tires. I did some research and Chevrolet has fixed all the LTZ Police cars but, not the civilian LTZ. A smart lady in PA has the ball rolling and has a law suit against Chevy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-jJdtLQuMc I wish her luck. As for me, I don't think my next car will be a Chevy. I worked for Chev for 10 years and Had a lot of respect for them. Times change!

Had wife telling me she felt like the rear end was riding on ice so took it to my cousin's tire shop and put on lift. Rear tires steel belts showing on inside of rear tires, bought four new 70000 mile tires. Three thousand miles later wife takes car to dealer ship for oil change. They tell tires wearing bad . Take down to cousin's shop, had to buy two new tires and then my cousin finds lower control cracked . Wrote to GM asked them how many people have to get hurt or worse die. Then month later news comes out about the recall for Cobalts .

2008 Impala SS with less than 30,000 miles I bought the car new. I have had the replace the rear tires only the front are perfect shape, I have taken the car to different dealers cant tell me what causing the rear tires to wear but it the $$$ amount to fit. Its not the struts.

I have a 2008 impala. at 20000 miles car started shaking, dealer said tires were just about shot from alignment being off and it wasn't under warranty. they tried to blame it on me. I should mention that I'm a mechanic and have rotated the tires every 6000 miles and have never had a set of tires go that soon. So $300 later the dealer did a alignment and balanced all the tires to get rid of the shaking on a car with only 20000 miles. at 30000 miles I had to spend $1000 on new tires and alignment at Goodyear. The car has 50000 miles on it now and have had it aligned 2 times since I put the tires on, and now its going to cost me over $200 because the camber is off and GM made the struts so you cant adjust them without putting special bolts in so they are adjustable. That's what I call poor design I have spent more money on tires and alignments on this car than I spent on my last 5 vehicles and I keep them all for the same amount of miles and trade them in .

The inside of the rear tires worn down to the steel wires. It was only a 1/4inch wear around the inside of tire could not be seen just looking at the car you has to crawl under to look at it.
Whats makes me upset is the car in for service at a GM dealership and nobody found or said anything to my wife.

This is the second time (first being 8/11) that I have had to replace rear tires because of premature excessive wear and found that it is caused by bad alignment which costs about $270 to redo because of a lousy design by Chevrolet. Namely, the struts have to be ground to make the adjustments necessary. I believe that there is a law suit brought, but it apparently is going nowhere. I will contact Chevrolet Customer Service, but I wanted to share this with others in the meantime.

I own a 2008 impala ss, it is my 4th impala. Never had a tire wear problem like this that the belts wear through on inside of the tires on back of car. It was so bad I couldnt do 40mph thru a puddle without rearend swaying,nevermind trying to drive in snow!!! GM should be doing something about this!!!

The Post Standard had an article on recalling 07 and 08 Impalas for Police cars because of a spindle rod problem.This article was on July 6, 2011. We had already run into this problem and fixed it spending money out of our pocket. If they see fit to fix the Police cars why can't they see fit to fix ordinary peoples' cars. This seems like the right thing to do! Come on General Motors we gave up money to help you, help us! Brambleys'

I was driving home alone on the highway (70mph) during the winter on a Sunday night at 7pm when a rear tire blew out. Thank-goodness I had On star to call a tow truck service because my cell phone didn't work. It took them a little over an hour to reach me since it was out in the boonies between cities. I had to pull over to the side where there was barely a shoulder and it was getting dark and my car would sway every time another car/truck passed by me. Needless to say I was not happy, it was getting dark and it was cold and thank goodness that I didn't lose control of the car when the tire blew. I was totally bewildered as to why the tire blew. I had to travel 100 miles on the spare tire to get home.I brought the car in the next day to replace the tire and found out that I had to replace all 4 tires because they were so worn that the belts could be seen. At the time I thought this was very unusual and I mentioned it to a few people. Then a week ago I brought the car in to get the door lock fixed and the Chevy dealer said they were doing free alignment checks so I had it done. When they called me to tell me what was wrong with the door lock, the tech also told me that my alignment was really bad, that it was so bad they would have to take the struts off and drill new holes to align it. Well, I was very upset and asked how could this happen...this car is not even 3 years old yet...I've never heard of this before. I said something isn't right here....he said sorry but that is what it would take to fix it. I angrily told him to not do anything and put the darn car back together. Later that evening I did some research on line and found out that I was not the only one that was having problems with the tires and alignment. So, as of now I have not had it fixed....I plan on trading it in for another car but not a GM that is for sure...this life long Chevy buyer is no more! Then today I find out there is a class action suit against GM for this very problem!!!

Had to replace 4 tires at 25,000 miles due to excessive inside wear. The dealer said not a GM problem. Had to replace, balance, and align. Never had that occur before on any new vehicle I purchased - at least not with the Ford's I owned.

GM never fixes a problem, they just ignore the situation and hope you go away!! I have bought new cars my entire life and never had tires wear out this fast. GM knows how to fix the problem, but they just let it go on to the next model year. More money in the CEO's pocket, so the tax payors can bail them out!!!!

This problem first started right after I bought the car. I have had the car in the shop a lot of times, they had me replace the tires, then to only have the problem come back again as soon as I rotated them. What a waste of good tread!! It doesn't shake the car & you can't feel it, but the thumping noise is bad when the tires are rotated to the front. No one can seem to find the problem or what is causing the noise. It is driving me crazy!! I just want a car that works. What is the problem here!! What happened to the dependable car. This is anything but!!

ok well at 18,000 miles had to replace my tires. i was told it was because the dealers put on cheap tires to sell the cars and the next set i bought would last way longer than i had to worry about since i leased. well at 41,000 miles again new tires with only 6 months to go on my lease. the wear was so extensive the tires were unsafe..the inside was worn to bare metal showing yet the rest of the tire was fine.... i was told that it is a supension problem and chevy is aware of it.... just to expensive to have a recall...sssoooo that makes th 3rd set of tires in 41,000 miles.. this is the first chevy impala i have owned ...... was completely satisfied with my pontiacs... well i never liked this car from the begining and i will n ot but another one...just waiting for my lease to run out and i will try a ford this time.. so beware of unsafe wear on your inside (hard to see} of your tires.. take a good look before you trust your family lives ...

I have taken my impala to the chevy dealer since new and had them change the oil and rotate the tires since new. Now my tires are rounded and bald at a low miles and they made me pay for the grinding on the struts that they said needed to be done in order for my tires to wear even. I think that g.m should pick up the tab on all the grinding of the struts

my tires wore out at 20000 miles and the gm rep said it was my fault because i must have hit a curb . in order to fix the front end alignment they had to grind down the struts because there is no adjustment on the 2008 impala .and the dealer made me pay for the repairs . not under warrenty

Perpetual issue with my Impala chewing through tires on the front axle. I have replaced camber bolts and tie rods, and gone through 5 sets of tires. I regularly check my tire pressure, rotate tires at every oil change and perform alignments at least 2x per year, however my tires on the front axle wear unevenly and extremely fast on the inside tread.
