Malibu LS

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,000 miles

When shifting into overdrive the transmission lags and won’t shift and white smoke pours out the back until RPMS drop below 2000. It’s burned all the transmission fluid out and since there is no dip stick I was unable to check that fluid. I thought it was just the head gasket going and it was burning coolant that’s where the smoke was coming from, but the coolant was always full so I just kept driving it carefully. And then the check engine light came on saying “torque converter mismatch” or something like that and when I looked that up it said transmission fluid is likely low so after adding 4 quarts of that it turned the check engine light off and rode fine. For a while. Then it continues to smoke in top gear at high RPMS and now the transmission slips with hard accelerations from stop and it jerks and jitters going up steep inclines at highways speeds. So now the car has 98,000 miles and the transmission is complete shot. Time to get a Toyota I guess!
