problem #1

Jun 222010

Malibu 2.2L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 102,164 miles

I just want to say that my husband and I found it very odd that you are unable to check the level or color of your transmission fluid in this vehilce. It states in the car manual that there isn't a way to check it because there is no need to replace it. (We found this sort of strange actually.)

But my chief complaint is that after only having just over 102,000 miles on my car one of the pistons shot a hole right thru the motor without any warnings whatsoever!!! After being stranded roadside with a smoking car (which I called the fire departmetn for) my husband came to tow me home because at the time we didn't know why the car had just quit. Once he got there we decided it best to call for a tow because we could not get the car hooked up safely for a tow. I then contacted my insurance agent thinking maybe I would be covered and they said if I had hit something it would be if it was mechanical it would not be covered. So payed for another tow to get it to the repair shop to discover it was mechanical problem.

I owe to much on the damn thing to let it go to waste and am now looking for a new motor for my car!!! And of course there never is a good time for things like this to happen but my husband and I both work and my daughter is on a traveling softball team.

Please let me know if you have any recalls or similar incidents like this. I really feel like Chevy should replace this motor considering there was NO warning of this about to occur.

Update from Aug 7, 2010: Well we have replaced the engine but now it'll turn over but the engine won't fire!! Seriously it's been checked over and over. We've done the stupid little wait ten minutes then try starting it crap and nothing seems to be working. Can you bypass the system all together? If so, somebody please tell me what wire to freaking cut!!! I have been without a vehicle since June 22, 2010 so I's getting a little pissy. This is obviously an ongoing problem that GM Chevy just doesn't want to address. You would think with this many complaints about the "anti theft" system they would do something to fix it.
