Your doors lock for a reason! That is why they have door locks, for safety reasons. My locks only work sometimes with the FOB or by the button on the door jam. In the past month they have gotten even worse any only 1 door really works. I have a small child and I am unable to lock the back doors to keep my child safe from someone trying to open the doors from the outside. Once they are locked, I am unable to unlock them unless roll down the window and pull up the lock manually or crawl into the back seat. If I ever got into an accident I would not be able to get my doors open. Also, because of the dumb design of this car there are no key slots on the outside of the doors except for the drivers so I can't even use a key to open the doors!

This is absolutely a safety hazard and how GM (Chevy) can't see this as an issue and do a recall is beyond me. So angry with this company and car. I won't ever be buying a GM car again!

Only option is to replace all the door actuators or whatever the hell they are called and it's $500/per door!! No thanks!

They say this isn't a safety issue? It is distracting that much is for sure. I really freaked out the first few times this happened. Driving with the locks jumping up and down constantly on a busy highway.... yep it is a danger for one your attention is being pulled away from your driving. I wonder what happens if they are locked and you have an accident and they are locked tight. I've had several cars with the automatic lock systems and kept them for years one of the last things to go out on one is the door locks... seriously. Should be a recall this was supposed to be a safety feature with this car. I always liked the automatic doors where I had children that rode in the back. They couldn't open the door randomly while I was driving same with the windows I could lock them and a child couldn't roll the windows down either.

Driver's side door lock stopped working. Right before it stopped completely, I started my car and all 4 door locks started going up and down, locking and unlocking like they were possessed. There was nothing I could do to stop them. I ended up driving over an hour with them doing it, then, when I stopped and got out of the car with the key, it continued to do it, I could not leave the car because i was afraid someone would steal it. This went on another 45 minutes. Then the next time I started the car, the driver's side never worked again.

I started having problems with the lock a few month after I purchase my car in 2008. I took it to the dealer for them to replace the two front doors locks but they didn’t see anything wrong with them. I told them that my locks sometimes didn’t work at all and I show then that the door locks were so weak that if I put my finger on top of them was enough for them to stop working, but this wasn’t enough for them to replaced. Anyways after the warranty was over finally they stopped working for good and I had to replace first the two front doors and after a few months later the back doors locks.

My 2008 Malibu LTZ has had lock problems for over a year now. The locks use to go up and down at random times. Now the locks go up and down non stop. I've read all these reviews and seen hundreds of other Malibu owners are having the same issues. I don't understand why there wouldn't be a recall on the stupid vehicle. Like many I'm still financing my vehicle and certainly don't have five hundred or more dollars to blow on getting the locks fixed just for them to have the same problem again. I feel for everyone and know how frustrating this.

Drivers door lock failed!!! I have to use the key or open the back door to manually pull up the lock on the drivers door to get in the car and push latch down to lock when exiting the car. I paid extra for this???? I have had all of my cars 10 or more years, usually well exceeding 200,000 miles before I buy a new one and I have never had a door latch fail. What kind of workmanship is this? I have had so many problems with this car, it is unbelievable but the door locks failing? The Malibu looks great, drives great, but I doubt I will ever buy another one as it is to expensive to maintain. Chevrolet needs to get with the program and fix these issues free of charge. Just for additional info, since I have had this problem I have talked to several Malibu owners who have said they are currently putting up with this problem or they had handed out $500+ to get each one fixed.

I had the car less than a year and the rear passenger door lock failed. Dealer replaced the door lock actuator under warranty. Now the same rear door doesn't work again; the other rear door lock is intermittent and the passenger FRONT lock works when it wants to. I was hoping there was a recall on this. My car is well out of warranty now and I certainly can't afford to spend almost $200 per door for the actuators.

Chevy needs to deal with this problem.

I bought this car a month ago trying to save on gas but it seems the problems with this car will never end. The door locks won't work and there is this annoying noise from the steering pump. There is this grinding annoying sound when turning and ticking sound as if out of oil but I just changed the oil with a synthetic brand. The dome light is not working either. GM is taking customers to the cleaners with this car. I am ready to trade it in. My old Audi and Rodeo out perform this beauty on the outside and monster on the pocket.

I have a 08 malibu with the famous lock problem have only had the car since oct 28 2012 and now the locks are all messed up. Besides the pain in the ass this is its also a safety problem and should be fixed by gm. its not the costumers fault that gm went and bought the cheapest hardware they could find and now we as costumers that bought domestic cars to help out the economy have to pay out our ass to fix their mistake by using cheap defaulting electric door locks you figure with all the technology we have today they could have at least figured out the electric door locks by now. I am VARY UNHAPPY WITH MY CHEVY PRODUCT I THINK ILL BUY A HONDA NEXT. they know how to make power doors work for more than 50,000 km chevy should grow some balls and stand behind the sh*t product their making.

I would just like to say, I have never been so disappointed with a 28,000 dollar car purchase than the 08 malibu LTZ. the exterior and interior look won me over but these power door locks malfunctioning after only 4 years? You have got to be kidding me. I have called chevy on numerous occasions and the end result is, the warranty is past and I'm left to fend for myself. I even spoke with a mechanic when i was addressing another issue and he agreed with me, that I shouldn't have to dole out any more money after paying 28000 for the car BRAND NEW. i purchased a BRAND NEW car so I would not have to worry about something like this. I am truly going to imports from here on out.

I reported this lock issue (1 didn't work) back to the dealer when it was still under warranty and they convinced me this didn't fall under it and blew me off. I reported it again a couple of years later because it was getting worse (3 of 4 don't work), and by then it was out of warranty. I took it up with GM because I've seen many complaints online about this issue and the best they would do is split it and charge me $650. First, I will never go back to Century Chevrolet for service based on their poor customer service. Second, I will never buy another Chevy, even though my last 3 vehicles were Chevy's and I buy a new car every 4-5 years due to business travel. GM customer service told me they were willing to lose my business over this issue and that was the best they could do for me. Seriously??? I am buying a new car in September and it will not be the Traverse or Equinox I was looking at.

2008 Malibu LTZ driver's side rear door stopped responding to fob or door switch. Front driver's side went out 2 weeks later. Never had "worn-out actuator" problem with any other vehicle. GM needs to hold the supplier responsible or do the right thing here. They will lose some valuable customers if they don't. I know of one for sure.

MY BROTHER AND I GOT CARS (same car 3 MONTHS APART). HIS CAR DID THE SAME THING - ALL DOOR LOCKS MALFUNCTIONED. HE TOOK IT IN TO CHEVY. GAVE HIM SOME WEIRD EXCUSE AND QUOTED A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT TO FIX IT. HE TRADED HIS 2008 CHEVY MALIBU IN FINALLY BECAUSE OF ALL ITS PROBLEMS AND BOUGHT A TOYOTA CAMRY.

THE COST QUOTED HIM WAS THE REASON I DID NOT TAKE MINE IN TO REPAIR. I COULDN'T AFFORD TO PAY FOR CHEVY'S MALFUNCTION. I WOULD LIKE IT FIXED.
