Monte Carlo SS 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 112,000 miles

On my 02 Monte Carlo that I just got the service traction control light comes on along with the abs light. Now, when braking I feel and hear a grinding noise at slow speeds and loose the power to brake. This happens when turning or go straight or in reverse. Also, when turning sometimes now without braking I hear a whining noise. Looked up the problem and found that there is a lot of people out there with similar issues. It points to a wheel hub or wiring to the abs control module.

All I want to say is I love my Monte Carlo but it looks like Chevrolet should recall due to all of the traction control problems because of the effects it has on the brakes. Come on Chevrolet and reward a very Chevy loving fan. I don't feel I should have to pay for this repair

I have a Monte Carlo and the service traction keeps coming on. Does anyone know what to do when that happens?

Monte Carlo 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 99,000 miles

When this first started, the Service Traction System and ABS lights would come on occasionally. Then the Trac Off light started coming on sometimes. Now the Service Traction System and ABS lights stay on and the Trac Off light is on most of the time. Sometimes when you come to a stop sign it feels like the brakes are locking up for a second or two. Then recently we have started hearing a kind of whining sound occasionally when we first take off. A mechanic looked at it and said that it would cost about $1500.00 to fix but we did not have to have it fixed. The longer it goes on the more we are getting worried about it and $1500.00 is pretty steep to put into the car considering the worth of the car.

Monte Carlo SS 3.2L V8

I've been researching this problem and it appears that, in this model, it happens often. The brakes feel like they are rubbing but I don't want to spend money that I don't have for something that might go away
