Monte Carlo SS 5.1L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 88,000 miles

The transmission is slipping when accelerating from a stop. It slips for a couple of seconds and then it engages and there is a klunk sound and a hit on the power train as the transmission stops slipping quickly. At first, it was worst when the car was cold but it's progressively getting worst from a temperature point of view. It's happening more now when the car is warmer. No maintenance has ever been done on the transmission. The fluid has never been changed. As I recall, there has always been a bit of that type of thing but it was rare and not as noticeable as it is now. Is it likely that flushing the transmission and changing the fluid might help or is it better to just take it into a transmission place.

Monte Carlo SS 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 83,100 miles

I have been a Chevy owner my entire life but after this purchase I have really lost faith in the American car. I have replaced the battery in this car twice already and now after I just paid it off and the extended warranty that I paid $1500 for runs out and of course the transmission needs to rebuilt. This was a very expensive reair and it seems like it wasn't all that old for this to go out considering 80-85% of the mileage is highway miles. The repair shop that fixed it even commented that the transmission put on the V-8 model was the same one on the V-6 model and was not designed properly to handle the extra torque of this bigger engine. i think American car companies need to stand up and realize that they need to stand up better behind their products.

Monte Carlo LT 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 94,500 miles

I BOUGHT MY CAR FEELING GOOD ABOUT IT, BUT THIS IS THE WORST CAR I EVER BOUGHT. I HAVE HAD FOUR NEW CARS IN MY LIFE AND THREE USED. THIS PROBLEM OF SHIFTING AND LOOSING POWER IS REALLY STARTING TO PISS ME OFF. NO WONDER TOYOTA IS WHIPPING CHEVYS ASS. IT STARTED ABOUT 15,000 MILES AGO. THE CAR HAS 94,000 NOW. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. SO IT IS A WASTE OF TIME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. I THOUGHT IT WAS BAD GAS BUT I HAVE PROVEN THAT WRONG. WHILE DRIVING IT STARTS MISSING NOT SHIFTING LOOSING POWER AND I CANT EVEN MANUALLY MOVE THE SHIFTER IN A DIFFERENT GEAR. I WAS DOING 40 MILES AN HOUR AT 4,000 RPM.

THIS PROBLEM IS NOT CONSTANT. THERE IS NOT ANY TIME LINE NOR AIR TEMP REASONING SUMMER OR COLD. I WISH I COULD TAKE THIS CAR AND DRIVE IT RIGHT THROUGH GM`S HOME OFFICE FRONT F*G DOOR.

Monte Carlo LS 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,350 miles

This is the 3rd. time my car has been taken in for the same thing(slippage/harsh shifting)the dealership states they cannot find anything wrong! So why is it occasionally shifting hard? Almost lunging into gear ! They kept my car for a couple days this time and still did not experience the harsh shifting.

I'm very aggravated over this happening and the dealership not being able to diagnose the problem!
