The accelerator pedal became stuck after being depressed. Vehicle continued to accelerate on its on. Consumer was able to pull over, and turned the vehicle off. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer, and mechanic determined that the butter fly linkage sheared off while driving. This caused the throttle pedal to remain open. Mechanic informed the consumer that the accelerator pedal needed to be replaced. The throttle body butterfly has a metal attachment held on by two rivets. Overtime these rivets became loose and cause metal fatigue to the attached piece of metal on the butterfly. The rivet on one side broke through the fatigue hole that was drilled for the rivet insert then causing the attach piece to shift thus wedging the throttle open.

The gas pedal on this vehicle is extremely low, causing the shorter drivers to have to pull seat all the way forward. This is a safety issue because I am driving 5 inches from the steering wheel. I have noticed that this is a problem with the Blazer as my mother owns one and we have rented several others, and all the gas pedals are about 4 inches lower than the brake pedal. This is also annoying and causes additional safety concerns because my foot frequently gets caught on the brake pedal when I shift my foot over (because the brake pedal is much higher), causing my stopping times to be longer than is safe.
