The windshield wiper motor would originally not turn off when activated on intermittent, or full on. Now it shuts off by itself when activated. It did this the other day during a severe rainstorm. Other owners of S-10's that I know are reporting the same problem. It is a severe safety hazard to have your windshield wipers quit on you, in traffic or not, during a rainstorm.

Wipers stopped during thunderstorm on interstate! this has happened many times! they work intermittently. But you never know when. Mechanic says this is common in this truck. Parts and labor around $200. I see a potentially fatal situation that will happen or perhaps already has. Why is Chevrolet ignoring this serious problem that could result in death?

Last year the wipers started to not work properly, it would speed up, slow down, not work, not shut off, now it is worse. Quite hazardous during rain, not repaired yet, called local dealer advised no recall for that year. There is a recall for 1997 model year with same problem

My windshield wipers have a wiring problem. When the switch is turned, they work sometimes and sometimes they do not. They often do not work in the rain but on dry days they will come on. After doing some research, I have discovered that water is getting in the wiring harness, and the device had to be shaken in order for the wipers to come back on. Windshield wipers that will not work in the rain seems pretty ridiculous to me. There was a recall on earlier year models that have almost identical wiring. The wipers not working has put me in several serious situations.

Windshield wipers will stop for no reason, then start again later, or you may have them set on intermittent, and they may all of a sudden stop orstart to go full speed.

I own a '98 Chevy S-10. GM has recalled S-10's thru '97 for faulty wiper circuit boards. My wipers failed in a rain storm and nearly caused an accident. They refuse to work with me on getting the situation resolved. It can't be an isolated to my vehicle since there is documented history of trouble with GM's wipers.

Have been experiencing intermittent windshield wiper failures with increasing frequency for the past three months. Wipers will work if and when they want to, and at whatever speed they choose. In past failures, the wipers would still work on high, or mist. In the most recent episode they totally failed. When they finally started to work again, they would not shut off!!

Windshield wipers quit working. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. we almost had an accident when spraying the windows while driving and the wipers refused to come on. This happened several times, and we finally had to have the module replaced. The Chevrolet dealer told us that they have had more than the usual number of people with 1998 S10S with problems but they can do nothing about it unless the company orders a recall. We believe the recall through 1997 should be extended to the 1998 model. Our truck only has 34000 miles on it. It cost us $139.11 to have this fixed. We could have had an accident on the road, but luckily it was an isolated area and we were able to stop in the road and clear the windshield.

Driving a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pick up truck. Windshield wipers failed to come on during a heavy rainstorm while driving on interstate 80 in Pennsylvania. Wiper module was replaced. I believe this was the same problem which was the subject of a recall for full size Chevrolet trucks. The S-10 pick up was not part of that recall.

GM will be having a recall that applies to Chevrolet S-10's through 1997. The recall relates to faulty wiper motor circuit boards that lead to intermittent operation of wiper blades. I own a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 VIN number [xxx] and have experienced numerous failures of the wiper blades during rain storms. The most severe incident happened during heavy rains today, when I lost the use of my wipers for 10 minutes. I have described the problem to mechanics who informed me of the recall and indicated that it is most likely the same problem as that of the recall. The recall should be extended to model year 1998 as soon as possible. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Problem w/ wiper control on '98 S-10 w/ 48,000 miles. First observed 6 months ago when windshield washer fluid was no longer pumped to windshield. Replaced pump in resevoir-- still had problem. About 1 month ago, wipers began operating erratically-- either running too fast, not at all, or refusing to shut off. Suspect this may be a control board issue, but current recall only covers '97's and earlier

The consumers vehicle experienced the same problem as the recall on the windshield wiper module. Recall# 1557585. The dealer would not repair the vehicle because the VIN was not included. The consumer replaced the module himself which solved the problem.
