Silverado 6.6 V8 DIESEL

The Check Engine Light illuminated and the diesel engine started to run very rough. I immediately drove to the dealership during a major snowstorm and had it diagnosed. The problem was not simple: A hard code of P2146 was found and the issue is this: The fuel injection system wiring harness, which is fastened securely to a bracket had chaffed through the bracket itself from standard diesel engine vibration. This is a factory installation, and the dealership had to special order the harness and connectors as they said that this was only the second time that they had seen this problem. After two hours of waiting, I was told that the total cost would be $610.98 for parts and labor! The technician stated that there is nothing I could have done to prevent this because the Durmax diesel engine vibration caused the harness to chaff on the bracket. One would think that this would be a major recall but as of today, it is not a recall issue. This I find to be unacceptable! Regardless of mileage, especially a 2005 vehicle, one would expect to have this addressed and repaired at no charge. The dealership had to special order the parts, and the technician "insulated" the existing harness to prevent further chaffing until the parts come in within one weeks time. He stated that I should not see a check engine light again, but if I do, I may also see a "low power" indication on the annunciator panel in the dashboard, and if this happens, I should immediately park the truck and rent a vehicle until the repairs are made. We use this vehicle as my wife's primary mode of transportation as well as pull a horse trailer and to transport our family of 5, including a two year old baby girl. I contacted the national Chevrolet Customer Service department, which I found to be located out of Canada, and explained the situation. The representative was polite and she took my information, and then put me on hold while she contacted the dealership. I was then told that she would contact me within one weeks time after the parts were replaced from the dealership and that they would then offer me something to offset the costs, but it would not be a cash reimbursement. She told me that the dealership stated that they would give me some kind of new vehicle purchase coupon, but I said "no way"! Why would I need another vehicle when I just purchased this truck less than two years ago! At this point, I feel this to be unacceptable and will push until I get a reimbursement. THe hard code listed during the diagnostics check was P2146, insulate FICM.
