Vehicle will slam into gear after coming to stop at stop sign or red light. Also while slowing to make a turn, then trying to accelerate. Vehicle feels like it's not in gear. It then slams into gear and accelerates. The term slam is not an exaggeration it is a hard jolt when the vehicle goes into gear.
