Silverado SR EXT V-8

  • Automatic transmission

Bought in May 2006. At 120 miles had flat. Chevy told me that tires were an option and that there wasn't a warranty on them. Wanted $30 to fix flat. Have General Ameritrac 245/70/17s. At 7500 had to replace a tire since it would not hold a plug. Tire would dissenagrate like rotten material. Tires were wearing fast. By 25000 miles have had to replace three more tires and have had 19 flats. Dealership told Chevrolet that it is the way I drive (I have a 900 foot gravel driveway and was told that the gravel makes the tires wear faster). Tire squeal on turns I though it may be nad slowed down to a crawl on turns. It still squeals. Tires will not hold plugs. Have not found nail or other objects in flats. Just holes hear tread separates. At 26000 I had the spare on, only driven about 1200 miles and it blew out at 50 mph. Almost got me killed. I now have four used tires and no spare. Chevrolet offered to put four Firestone Destination LEs for $275.00 plus $100 to recalibrate the speedometer. These tires have been problems for others include GSA who fleet purchases trucks with these pieces of crap tires on them. I was charged $125 as a manufactured installed option on my window sticker for these tires. The NHTSB has multiple complaints for these tires. They are a real safety hazard.
