I noticed when I got into my vehicle that there was a crack on the passenger side dash, right above the airbag. This can't be safe! if the airbag were to deploy, then what is to stop the rest of the dash to explode apart like shrapnel causing injury to some in the vehicle. I am afraid for my passengers safety! about a week later found another crack on the driver's side of the dash. I have done some research and there are hundreds of others who have experienced the same problems! also, their pictures posted on social media show the cracks are in the same locations as that of my dash. I honestly believe that this problem is due to poor design and cheap constructed parts. GM should be held accountable and rectify these issues before someone gets injured or even worse. Here is a link to the social media group page which is only about this issue: [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

The dashboard on my 2007 (new body style) Chevy Silverado ls, 4.3L has cracked, randomly, right above the passenger air bag. There was nothing to cause this crack, it just appeared. After doing some research, many other GM owners, ranging from Silverado to Tahoe to escaldes, also have cracks in their dash, in the same spot, some worse than others. My main concern is it cracking more, and also if the passenger airbag were to deploy, the possibility of the dash breaking apart and possibly throwing shards of plastic at me or passenger. Not only is the safety an issue, but the appearance is an issue, since its a rather large crack, it looks unsightly. Thanks for your time, hopefully something can be done about this popular defect that hasn't been addressed by GM yet.

The dash board cracked around the passenger airbag. I would think this would affect how the airbag deploys. GM will not replace the dash, only cover half the expense. They know this is an issue as they have added reinforcements in the area of the dash the cracks.

2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Consumer would like GM to buy back truck because of design flaws and suspected lemon the consumer stated onstar activated and stated the vehicle had been in an accident. The consumer called onstar to tell them that the vehicle had not been in an accident. The operator asked the consumer were there any lights on the dash. The consumer stated the air bag light was on. The operator attempted to instruct the consumer on how to reset the light, and stated if it didn't clear within two days to call back. When the consumer put the gear into drive and started to go forward, there was a tremendous explosion, dust filled the truck and onstar came on saying the vehicle had been in an accident. They vehicle was towed to the dealership. A week later, the consumer received a call from the dealership stating the explosion was caused by a poor design in the galleys in the floor, they went from the center of the truck to the drivers side door under a rubber mate. One of the galleys went through a rubber grommet which allowed water to leak into a compartment storing very high pressure compact cylinders for the air bag and seat belts. The water caused corrosion on the high pressure cylinders and caused the explosion. Also, the tailgate latch would not latch properly. The dealer found the pivots had seized. On cold starts, the transmission would hesitate and then a loud bang was heard. The dealer found a valve body bolt broken.

I took my new Chevy truck into the dealer for some new factory equipment (bug deflector and bed liner) to be installed by them. While the dealer had my 2007 Chevy truck they loaded 2008 power train software into it's computer without my permission. The 2008 software changed the way my truck runs. The power train now has a speed limiter on it and the stability control was changed. It will not go as fast it as use to go before the change. I was told by the dealer and GM they would not put my truck back the way it was as when I bought it. They told me that the reason was the Goodyear tires and the truck design were unsafe without the 2008 software installed and would not change my truck back to the 2007 configration. I have not gotten any recall or safety notices about this issue. I think GM and the dealer made a mistake and do not want to correct it. If there is a problem with the tires (Goodyear Wrangler tires) and the 2007 truck design (GM Silverado 1500 lts crew cab) GM is trying to cover it up. There are hundreds of thousands of 2007 GM trucks, cars, SUV's even Cadillac's that have the same power train in them that my truck has and they are not changing the computer programs in all those vehicles. I was told they would be changed only if the trucks, SUV's and cars were brought in for any kind of service work, but would not be changed if not serviced by GM. Sense there have been no recall notices about these issues I think GM is trying to cover something up. The very least trying to cover up their dealers and there mistake by altering my truck without my permission or they do have a serious problem that the public should be aware of. Please look into this. The same tires are on Ford and Dodge and they don't software limit there performance. I paid top dollar for GM's best truck with the biggest engine made for it, I could have saved a lot of money by buying a six cylinder engine instead of the big V-8. if I knew GM was going to de-rate mine.
