Silverado LT 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 800 miles

Transmission has made a significant clunk sound after stopping at a stoplight or sign for sometimes up to 10 seconds. Sometimes more violent than others. Sometimes it feels like another vehicle has hit my truck from behind. The dealer have supposedly reprogrammed the transmission, packed the tail-shaft with grease, and tested but could no duplicate the still existing problem. I have learned to live with this problem but I hear other owners having the same problem with no corrective action being taken by the General Motors Government bailed out company. I guess it is not going to be serious enough for GM or the government to find a correct repair or replace solution until several innocent people get killed or seriously injured, but even then it will be denied or hidden for several years.

Silverado Extended Cab V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30,000 miles

Installing the rubber ball behind the yoke did help some. The clunk, when coming to a stop and going into first gear, is much softer now. I have 132,000 miles on this truck and I think it has plenty of life left in it, but I worry that the problem will reoccur as the dealer told me this was the manufacturer's idea of a fix.

Silverado LT 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,200 miles

Upon normal acceleration the transmission seems to shift hard from 1st to second gear. It does this about 60% of the time. Recently it has been hanging in 1st gear for a longer period of time. Have had it into the dealership and they said that it can be normal, and would also cost $1500 to investigate further. I still need to know what is wrong with the transmission before it completely stops working.

Silverado LT 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 18,800 miles

EVERY TIME I stop the transmission downshifts and makes a loud clunk sound when I let off the brake to accelerate. I've had 2 instances when the truck actually never went into 1st gear after stopping. It was accelerating in 2nd gear from a dead stop. I also notice when I'm braking and getting ready to accelerate again, the transmission is slow to go into the appropriate gear. It shifts extremely rough unless I ease into it VERY slowly. Sometimes it even goes into first for a split second and then immediately shifts... And the last thing I notice is when the truck is completely cold, and after warming up, the first shift into 2nd every day is extremely rough, lunging forward giving me whiplash. It's very disappointing and I'm afraid to take it in because dealerships sure don't value your time.
